No Limit Hold 'Em Poker Discussion

This feature table is hilarious with most of the table having fun and talking being loose as if there isn't 50k pay jumps and a 12 million first prize. What in the hell is going on looool

Honestly find it just about the least interesting (major) tournament of the year to follow.

The whole WSOP gimmick is a bit tedious outside of a few events, imo.

Far prefer watching the high roller triton tournaments, for example.

I Watch D Negs WSOP vlog every year

Find him to be a very odd man.......quite entertaining in small doses.

Absolutely agreed. He's clearly a bit of a savant, and odd in other ways. And as I said earlier itt he can only play (win) really particular games (in terms of what's easily watchable for the public) he's clearly still one of the best and can do it a number of different ways.

There are times where I think he's a bit too in love with "the right decision" if that makes sense.

WSOP broke main event attendance this year

Good to see the game is still healthy

My opinion is he’s a “right place, right time” guy…..same with Helmuth.

Both above average tournament players, but nowhere near upper echelon. Both have just ran amazingly at life.

If he was (hypothetically) an unknown 22 year old, with 25k in his bank, looking to become a pro poker player in 2023, I think he’d struggle.

Tbf, could probably say the same about 75% of known, top pros.

Luck is still the single biggest factor in poker, imo.

2 very suspicious hands in my game yesterday:

1/3 holdem

1)
Guy raises utg to 10. Mid position raises to 35. Button calls. Utg raises again to 125. Button calls.
Flop comes 10c10sJd. Utg player pushes for last 160 or so. Button calls.
Utg shows AKo. Button shows 8c6c.
Turn 8, river 7.

2)
Same guy as before raises mid position in straddled pot to 15. I'm on the button with AdKd. Raise to 50. He calls.
Flop comes AcKh9c. He checks. I bet 45. He calls.
Turn comes 4h. He checks. I bet 150. He calls.
River comes 5d. He goes all in for my last 200ish. I snap. He shows 2c3c.

Never been one to question legitimacy of games, but this one had me wondering.

Even if cheating the hands don't make sense. Guy seemed to play standard or the rest of the night and seemed to be pretty competent.

Live players don't make sense at all sometimes. 1 isn't all that crazy except for button sucks. 2 isn't that crazy either since he had a combo draw on turn. A bigger flop bet might have got him to fold but I get you're trying to milk that hand. Sometimes even good players have bad hands where they do dumb shit.

Damn Fugazy got banned...

Yes, that's the point. Awful play, won.

It's dreadful play, not debatable.

Whilst true, some of it is so bizarre that it's natural to question it. Look at the famous J 4 hand last year.

Cmon. Both are just awful. Not even debatable.
1 is awful for button because what the fuck but it's not crazy for UTG. It's awful in a cash game no doubt, but it's common in a tournament setting. For 2 you gave him a price to call on the flop, nothing crazy here. The turn call is terrible but standard. The guy could have been someone who plays tournaments all day at home and decided to go play live not understanding fundamental differences between the two. Looks like standard lagtard play to me.

Is there anything specific that you think is outrageous, like a certain flop or turn?

In 1?

Yes, all of it. Flat calling a 4 bet pre with 8 6. Then calling the big 5 bet. Then calling the flop shove with no pair, no draw. Literally every action he took was wrong, clearly. Very wrong.

Would be even worse play in a tournament.

My first thought is he's trying to use button to float and jam but hell I don't know. That's the only thing that semi makes sense. Maybe he thought he had a read. You can't expect live players at a 1/3 to make sound decisions. I agree with you what the fuck lol

Aha, got confused. I'm shitting on the 6c8c not the AK, who played it absolutely fine.

It's the worst aspect of poker to me, when awful plays end up winning.

I mean it's a bad play the whole way but in live poker (with some drinking) it's actually not out of the ordinary in low stakes. Maybe 8 6 suited is his favorite hand? Or maybe he had a run of lucky wins with it. I've seen tons of retarded with bad (and good cards). I saw a player play with a ludicrous combo of something like 7 3 like four or five times throughout the night because he got super lucky the first time so he played them like he had pocket AAs the rest of the way. He won with them all night and the lines he took were quite ridiculous ~ raising/3 or 4-bet raising.

Yeah sure, but the calling the all in is just burning money.

I’ve seen players who obviously don’t give a shit and just get it in basically every hand, but this guy wasn’t one of them.

Played those 2 spewy hands at the start, then just played normal, solid poker for the next 4 hours.

Weird. Guess the pills wore off.
