Smolov Base Mesocycle - Week 1, Day 1

Decided to just go ahead & start Smolov this week instead of doing week two of the Intro Cycle. Felt like I needed to put some work in & also my hands are not going to allow any pressing for a week or 2 at least. Got through the workout pretty good today. Hands also survived. I clean & re-bandaged everything before & after the workout. Also cleaned the barbell before lifting & wore (gasp!) workout gloves for today's workout. Felt totally Bro'd Out, it was a little embarrassing.Went way intense on the last 2 sets, that helped some with my lack of focus.

So much shit going on right now in my personal life that everything is really tough. Having trouble concentrating or getting focused.

Tough day today, but I got the reps in. I'm travelling to Phoenix tomorrow for 2 days, so I went ahead & did tomorrow's workout today. My belt leaves big bruises on my hip bone, so trying to squat 2 days in a row is really tough, since the belt just digs into yesterday's bruise. I have a giant strawberry on my side right now. It will take a few days to heal. Hands did ok, but they don't like the lifting. I wore the gloves again, but the big cut on my right hand started bleeding again anyway. So that sucks, because it will just take longer to heal. At any rate, the planned squat session for Friday is 7 sets of 5 at 325. I'll play it by ear & see how my hands are doing by then. Maybe 2 days off will help.

Yo, if you need any advice on glove purchases or anything, I'm the guy to go to on this board. I work with a few bros, weigh about 130-lbs soaking wet, curling machines. They go through a pair of gloves in a week. New pair of gloves every time I see em. I'm sure they know the best brands.
 
Oh man, I hate those goddamn warts. I just had mine frozen off on my wrist.

Hey that's a good idea to gloves to cover up your lesion. I should've done that after my calluses were torn off numerous times from deadlifting.
 
Take care of your hands dude. If they are causing trouble it might not be a bad idea to take a week off and just use machines to stay active (leg press, hamstring curls etc) and give your hands time to heal.

Otherwise, that's some solid squatting.

Due to work & time constraints I worked out in the garage today, while I was on a conference call :-) Multitasking at its finest. Knees were cracklin a little this morning, so I wore the sleeves during squats & had no issues. Feeling my age a little bit today, but I think that's because I drank like a fish all week, need to pull back a little. The squats were hard today, but not impossible. Felt like I accomplished something in the gym today.

Yeah...10x3 day...wasn't terribly hard, but took a long time. Going to Halloween party later tonight. Hope I can walk.

Yep...at least the first 2 out of 3 weeks. The 3rd week I'll be in Hawaii so might be tough to get those workouts in.

Here's my thoughts on the 1st week: Difficult but not impossible. I was never in a position where I thought I wasn't going to get the sets or reps. The higher rep days were tougher than the lower rep days. Next week should be a real test. Each day is increased by 20 pounds over this week.
 
Is that smolov or smolov jr? Either way, that's awesome. Just looking at the template for smolov/jr gets me tired.
