My ADD Training Log - 2012

You were obviously robbed.

It's a shame to see incomptent (perhaps even corrupt) judging marring the world of costume contests.

lol....I think this is the 1st time...not that there's anything wrong with that....

Squats felt good today, but the last set was tough. No gloves today, hands are getting better. I think I can probably start adding some pressing back into the workouts very soon.

15x115

Hands are healing nicely so I thought I try some pressing today. I wore gloves and the hands held up fine, no issues. Pressing felt solid. Got an unexpected Rep PR. I also decided to try a couple of singles at 185, which is 90% of my all time PR on this, which I haven't even attempted in about a year. So I'm pleased with 185 today.

Long intro, but after the first 55 seconds, its awesome:

Squats are feeling great. Legs feel like rocks though. Not really sore, but they're sort of going WTF??? Hands gave me no problems with bench today, so that's good. This took a while, and I had to get back to work, so no additional assistance work.

Holy Crap. Today was TOUGH. On the 10th set I think I might have strained something in my left quad near the knee. Hope I'm not injured. So at this point week 3 of Smolov is questionable. We'll see how I feel on Monday. But today sucked. Just absolutely sucked.

I'm in Hawaii next week, so it will be tough to lift as scheduled anyway, since I'll be busy drinking Mai Tai's and playing the ukulele. Man I am fried right now. All I want to do is lie down.

If you curled more your squatting would improve. Its science

I did get in an epic session of TRX curls, triceps & face pulls last night while drinking a couple of coors lights... Just didn't log it.

Secret curl training, sneaky, very sneaky

I bought a bunch of resistance bands for my shoulder rehab, but I found they give a wicked pump on curls and other athletic exercises. Thinking about keeping one on my desk so that I can get in some extra curls and shoulder raises while I am surfing the net in the evening.

Great idea, Jaunty! I approve!!

Btw, apologies for not posting this week. I'm in Hawaii, and was unable to continue Smolov because my leg is jacked up. Bummer.

Having a Mai Tai and sushi right now :)

Mai Tai and sushi... sounds pretty good.

You get quite a few injuries- have you looked into getting warm/compression gear? I was getting to the point where tendinitis was coming on in various places almost automatically after a couple of weeks where my training load and intensity was high, plus having regular back pulls. I started wearing full-length compression gear, didn't have any problems, went on the road without it and after a few weeks of going to the gym started to feel my hamstring tendinitis come back. Now I am back in Kabul and compressed suited-up, my training load is pretty high and so far, touch wood, I don't seem to be reacting. Really I will need more time to really get a sense of how well it works, especially as I am only lifting 60-70% of what used to be heavy for me for my main lifts, but a lot of people recommend it.

Compression gear is a good suggestion - as far as the injuries, I don't think they're excessive, but I do tend to log pretty much everything, so it may seem that way. And, since I'm 40, I take time off when I do get injured. My leg right now doesn't affect my day-to-day walking or anything, but it doesn't feel quite right, so I won't be squatting until it does. I'll continue doing bodyweight work next week as rehab. I do plan on upper-body lifting.

Had a great week in Hawaii, very productive. Also found out out I'm getting an unexpected bonus at work, so that's always cool. I'm working 2 projects in Maui, hopefully I'll get to spend a little more time in Maui maybe in January. Was only there 1 day this week, I was on Oahu for the rest of the week. Here's the view from the office / hotel room this week in Honolulu:

No problems with my leg today. I guess the week off was perfect. I'm just considering the Smolov experiment as a couple of high-volume weeks & now I'm back to 5/3/1 on my squats now. I'll be squatting twice a week. I'll also be benching twice a week - looking forward to some gains before the PL meet on Jan 12th. I have 9 weeks.

Squats felt pretty good today, but I was talking to a buddy of mine right before the last set & ended up taking way too long of a break. As a result, the last set was all over the place, GM'd every rep - just ugly. Still tied a rep PR, though, so not bad. I'm up to 445 as my training max right now for squats on 5/3/1 - so these next 2 cycles won't be easy (408 is my current PR).

Good squatting dude!

And just so you know, I did throw last week. So quit bugging me:icon_lol:
