Leon has been getting a lot of hate

I would never say someone got lucky for having the success he had because i think for one there's no such thing as lucky punch or kick like his head kick. Luck do seem to play a large part though in some ways, but it's really fate that works in mysterious ways in our lives, including MMA.

I tip my hat to Leon for beating Usman and Colby, but in a way, one may say he was lucky, not sure if we should try to take credit away for dethroning usman while losing, but it may be the case that it was more the case of being in the right place and the right time more than the true reflection of his skills and strength.

That's really what sucks about being destroyed like that twice in a row, it makes that kick look more of a fluke than it may have appeared so before...
One thing you can’t take away from that kick, is it’s beautiful technical proficiency. Any man taking that kick flush on that night, goes out.

Cuz in a million simulations, that may happen once. His grappling on paper may look impressive beating usman twice and colby once, but it wasn't so.

Usman wasn't the same in the second.

Also, I don't think i necessarily said it WAS a fluke, but that it makes it look MORE like a fluke.

yeah, but in a million simulations JDS wouldn't KO Cain or Werdum the way he did. Conor wouldn't KO Aldo the way he did. Matt Serra wouldn't KO GSP the way he did. i don't get why replication is a necessary part of how you win. i never hear anyone talk about "this isn't able to be replicated" of any other finish of a specific fight except Leon's kick, but the fact is there is barely any fight that is going to be repeatable.

Usman wasn't the same. i agree on that. i don't really care about either fighter, but at the time i thought the 3-match was too soon, and he should've given it at least 6 months to come up with a cohesive gameplan and drill the tactics needed. but it seems like Usman thought the same as a lot of sherdoggers and that it was a fluke, then he lost even more convincingly in the rematch.

the other thing that i keep reiterating is, but the MW boogeyman had trouble with Usman on short notice, coming up a weight class DIRECTLY after the Leon fights. that should count for SOMETHING for Leon. because either Usman is washed so Leon beating him isn't that impressive in which a lot of sherdoggers here are saying (i'm not accusing you of this though) and Khamzat's super grappling isn't so super if you're veteran grappler like Usman is, OR Leon beat a guy who many were touting as WW GOAT and Khamzat had a difficult time with Usman because Usman is still elite even though he's not in his prime.

i hate that i'm over here having to defend Leon because i don't really care about him and have been critical of him with his 1 gear style of fighting, but we have to TRY to be unbiased in our assessment of fighters, even if we don't like their style/personality, otherwise we're not going to get legitimate read on the talent.

tl/dr: i can agree with your take more than most of them on this thread because it's less about your feelings and opinions and more about general perception.

Doesn't seem like a bad guy lol? Leon seems like a jerk, and apparently he has that rep w/ other fighters.

Never seen much of it really though I guess likewise Rashad could be viewed like that as well. I still think both of their hates was mostly overblown and not fully deserved.

No hate from me.
I have a lot of sympathy for the dude... he's clearly not the sharpest tack in the pack.

Right?? Cheated like Conor too in the trilogy fight, lmao.
The Leon lovefest era was annoying. Anyone calling out his numerous fouls against Usman was a salty hater.

Usman cheated like crazy in the second fight. I lost count of the cage grabs. Herb simply didn’t call them. And he’s the CEO of EPO.

I like how you snuck in Matt Serra one there, *summon that pic with a clown amongst soldiers* lol. That's probably closer comparison. It probably lies in the difference those fights and Serra/Leon one where these two fighters probably are clearly outclassed.

Khamzat's super grappling isn't so super if you're veteran grappler like Usman is - This. Fighting is a mental game. He just got sent to a shadow realm. It's not wise to fight the same guy right after. He had time to recoup.

I don't like Leon either. Like I said, I didn't say it WAS a fluke. It said getting beat up like that twice may make it look MORE like a fluke, why you picking on me bro lol

I didn't hate on Leon either. I think I gave a lot of props to Leon. https://forums.sherdog.com/threads/sean-brady-vs-leon-edwards-why-no-hype.4354864/ Did you see anyone else make thread like this for that fight?

But those two losses are so bad that it may be very fair to reconsider where he stands regarding his skills and his standing.

And in case you haven't noticed, in this reply post, I did not once straight up said it WAS a fluke.

Headshot DEAD!

Probably best knock out ever arguably. And the coach reaction before that fifth was movie-esque. A great, great win.

Yeah, if a screen writer wrote that for a movie sequence, he’d/she’d be asked to rewrite it, as it was too unbelievably.

so does Khamzat suck too? he barely beat an EVEN MORE diminished Usman.
Khamzat struggled w/ Usman because he had an idiotic game plan. He was winning handily when he was just jabbing and striking in a disciplined way. But he just couldn't help himself and had to fight like a retard.

Leon barely talks to the media and I dont even know if he has social media. They're way bigger shit talkers in the sport than him.

There's other things to dislike about him like his conservative style of fighting. But being a loud mouth is definitely not it.

was weird when he said that Belal didn't deserve a shot despite being in the same position as Belal not too long ago.
Actual fighters still think like this ? About Belal ? (everybody knows his name, but nobody knows that guy... shit what’s his name again ?) Casuals have a long path to fandom !

<mma4>

He only had fans caz he knocked out usman

He had usman hater fans

Nobody actually liked Leon - he’s such a cocky douchebag who never shows respect … and boring as fuck … boring and douchey = no thanks

nah i don't have a problem with your view. i agree with it most of it. i was quoting you but not talking about you in my posts or that you think it was a fluke win. it was more addressing the rest of the posters in the thread who think Leon sucks or whatever.

I don't dislike Leon like many may. Good luck to the guy too, he might need it since UFC might try to build other guys off him now.
