Yea Historically that whole caucasus region like azerbaijan Dagestan chechnya Georgia Ossetia etc was the hotspot to hire mercenaries because these people were tough as rocks, infact some Islamic empires in the middle east had armies composed entirely of caucasus mercs/slaves who later took over themselves(Baibars being prime example). Not much different from modern day where arabs pay million to these Caucasians to represent them and win a olympic medal

True enough, though I'd say Volk's performance on the deck against Islam was v impressive, was never really in danger of getting subbed at any time from memory, Islam kept dominant position though.

The bit that Khamzat and Islam both excel at isnt the takedown or the ground, it's the in-between bit where they're holding on and alternating them between standing and the ground, making them carry their weight to gas them out but not subbing them

Whatever Craig did with JDM didn't seem to have an answer for that bit. I'm not sure how you'd even train to deal with it really

Craig only trains with Jack like two weeks a camp for the past couple of camps. It's isn't like he Is jack's day to day grappling coach. Even still, Jack used a lot of Craig's d'arce defenses against Islam and it saved his ass. Anyone who doesn't think Craig is one of the best bjj minds in the game is crazy.

If You are trying to sell avoiding the submission as a success , I dont buy it.

He got complete domination. 18-20 min control time, no chance to win , without single get up. This is not a success

Dagi men dont take unmecessary risks, if they would win unanimously, they dont push for the finish. Khamzat did the same. Gettng mauled with no response is not a good defence, avoiding the submission is not a success

You could not find a single unbiased person to vote other than 50-45. Your boy smashed by a guy comes from lower weight division with no answer and that is the only fact.

I mean, Volk did end Islam's 5 fight finish streak and JDM ended Islam's 3 fight finish streak. Not a resounding success but these are wins to build off of.

Ultimately, I think these guys just train harder, start earlier, avoid more distractions and have access to the best infrastructure and talent to work with. Until you get that kind of capital investment elsewhere they are going to remain the superpower.

He's a good sport, Islam told him his jiu jitsu doesn't work and said he should come to Dagestan, Craig said he will. And Craig would actually go through with it, would be great to see them training together.

Surprise Ali doesn’t take it friendly. His sense of humor is worse than sherdogs own neckbeards.

Ali knows that what they do only works against MMA fighters. It doesn’t work against specialists. Like all metas in MMA, eventually if it becomes a big enough of a problem, fighters will overcompensate and that style will get phased out.
