Ok. Technically, what Jones is saying is true. Aspinall won't significantly add to Jone's legacy if he wins, however it will SEVERELY detract from it if he loses.
That said, it's a bit disingenuous. To not fight the interim champ and unify the belts, especially when that fighter has, for the most part, cleared out the division, sends a clear message... I don't want to risk it.
Pereira is worth that risk because he's the UFC's hottest ticket right now, and has won championships in TWO divisions. He's the money fight AND the legacy fight. Not to mention,
Jone's knows he could probably take Pereira down, and it would be textbook from there.
