I hate these types of comments from fighters. Especially guys like Jones who have done it all and made their money. If you want to pick fights, give up the strap and stop holding up the division. Angling for a fight with Pereira who isn't even in the division and struggled with Jan Blachowicz is quite something. I'm not convinced Pereira gest past Ankalaev in the near future anyway.
'Legacy fights' and 'money fights' can stay in the world of boxing for me. One of the great appeals to MMA is that usually, the best fight the best. We have seen some incredible passing of the torch moments over the years.
We've had our hearts broken as some of the greats were beaten and laid out on the canvas. Legends like Chuck Liddell, Shogun, Anderson Silva, Wanderlei, Aldo, even active former champs like Volk and Holloway.
Jones is either taking the piss with these comments, or avoiding Aspinall. It could be a bit of both. Aspinall has laid waste to half the top ten inside one round and holds the interim title. The only one to tick off his hit list which is of some interest is Cyril Gane. He just has a style that causes Jones issues which is precisely why he doesn't want the fight.
Quite honestly, next week's Miocic/Jones fight might be for the official title, but as far as I'm concerned, Aspinall is the man in that division.
