We just saw Khamzat vs the strong DDP. I don't think size and strength mean much when it comes to wrestling like people think it does.

Islam is nowhere NEAR the wrestler Khamzat is. He's not even close to where Khabib was at.

He's much more oriented as a submission grappler than wrestling specialist and a far better striker than Khamzat, particularly his sophisticated counter striking game.

re: DDP, they didn't count on him doing 5 rounds of conservative point fighting, he was pretty ill prepared. JDM will show up ready to counter wrestle and its a much less difficult wrestling match.

Burns had a lot of success against JDM until he got wrecked, but JDM is also much improved every time we see him. This is a really fun and evenly matched fight.

Also in the Burns fight JDM had a broken arm. But either way, maybe I'm missing something, but I see Islam as a better version of Belal and if Belal can lose a 47-48, I'm assuming Islam easily gets the extra point. Of course, my line of thinking goes out the window for many fights.

But hey I hope it's a war like you guys expect. Personally I see it one sided for Islam, but that's even a better scenario from my expectations. I'm leaning towards Islam decision, but if goes Islam's way I'm thinking sub in the first 3 rounds.

If JDM keeps it standing and beats Islam on the feet I think I've underestimated him once again. To be fair I predicted Belal to beat him, so my JDM prediction track record isn't great.

I firmly picked JDM to beat Belal, because Belal wouldn't be able to close the distance in the style he uses without dealing with major damage from JDMs boxing, and everyone used this same argument for that fight.

That said, I have no opinion on JDM vs Islam at the moment. I would have to do sick tape review at minimum, currently I have zero clue but I would go with Makky gun to my head.

i pick JDM to beat Mak but using Belal as the litmus test for it isnt wise for Belal is kind of an idea and isnt 1/5th the striker Makachev is let alone even as good in grappling.

the amount of times his swollen head run into JDM's fists was near comical as Mak is a much better finisher and has far higher fight IQ but the problem is Belal is naturally bigger and only has a better chin than Islam, who's chin is questionable in how he responds to certain hits.

I think JDM definitely has a chance though, if he can keep it standing for an appreciable amount of time. He's got solid hands and defense.

Strength exactly isn't about how much you can lift dude. I'm not very strong but I wrestled and can out "muscle" bigger stronger dudes but with effort I admit though.

Yup, back when I was training BJJ, I was probably the guy with the most "gym strength" in the room and was one of the bigger guys in the room.

With some background in wrestling, I was tossing people around on day one and most guys couldn't even attempt a submission on me.

This worked for the most part until I ended up rolling with a guy who had wrestled at a college level. Despite him giving up nearly 30 lbs to me, I could rarely even get to a position where I could even leverage my strength and size advantage to him. All of a sudden I was getting taken down and held down and it wasn't fun anymore

So ya, Islam is that type of guy where his lifelong commitment to grappling means he will almost always put himself in a better position than his opponent and any strength advantage his opponent has will be negated unless that opponent has an equal level of grappling.

Of course it's an MMA fight, not a grappling or wrestling match, so that all goes out the window if he can't get takedowns.

He really didn't. He was caught off balance when gassed in the last round and chose to go to his back to ride out the fight.

He didn't get wobbled or hurt in any real sense.

I tend to agree. JDM is no easy task for anyone at 170, but I don't know that there's evidence to suggest that he will blow Islam out of the water. He looked good against Belal, but Islam and Belal are significantly different fighters. Belal is a pressure fighter witha 7/10 skillset just about everywhere. Islam is a methodical grappler with clean striking and sometimes questinoable stamina. It may be an easier fight for JDM for all we know, but I don't have confidence either way; my gut tells me to go with Islam here as he's a better grappler than Belal, but I wouldn't bet on it if I were a betting man.

its been pretty well documented that he had a very short rehydration window in AUS. That will definitely kill your cardio and chin. Now he has no weight cut at all
