Yeah most likely got stripped or forced to vacate for refusing to defend. Why they are running the weight story is beyond me. I guess it looks better on paper for both parties

Ilia was going to get the rematch with Volk why would they strip him if he wants to go up and is happy to vacate the belt. He already ko’d Volk. Ilia has been saying he wants to go up for awhile now.

If it dragged out for months and months and Ilia didn’t want to fight the number 1 contender at featherweight maybe they would have that discussion.

probably. nobody gives up the belt that easily. Even if he had no intention of ever making 145, he likely had to intention of admitting it and wanted to go for duel champ status and only after the fact admit he's done at 45, or just have the brass call him out on that and strip him.
