Is the British influence in UFC that big?

I wish we could all collectively just stop discussing it ad nauseum. Lots of posters here and fans in real life acted like they were disgusted with the Jon Stipe fight, and then proceeded to shit talk the whole event every day for months in the lead up.

And then, we all watched it. We all watched it not even 24 hrs after the Tyson Paul bout, and like the gluttons for punishment we are, we all scrambled back here to rabble rabble about the results.

I think we need to chill out with the 24/7 fixation on Jon/Tom, there's plenty of mma to look forward to regardless of what happens there.

Are we really just going to keep making Jon/Tom threads every day from now til the day it happens (or it doesn't)?
Lol the topic has been thoroughly covered for the time being, and we'll all watch whatever the ufc does next anyway.

That's not gonna happen. What could happen and what would possibly be the next best thing is that you stop talking about it and stop clicking on the threads that you don't like.

It's always my advice when people complain about any subject they don't like on SD. Just avoid the topic.

They can sell tickets but their PPV revenue isn't great. It's around 20 bucks per buy?

I used to think the MMA fanbase was less tribalistic, fanboyish and insane than the boxing fanbase. This Jon Jones debacle has proved me wrong. The amount of loons that have come out of the woodwork over something as simple as the champ of a division defending his belt against the no2 ranked guy just because of who the champ is is absolutely ridiculous.

"Easy win"
"JJ went to HW because the LHW was getting too tough" --- so would fans say....
No that's actually NOT what I said

But since ypu brought it up...

MW, LHW, HW are all at their weakest right now BTW. The weakest of those 3 is HW

Jones talked about going to HW for a decade. A decade ago it was stacked. Now it is not at all. There is literally only 1 interesting matchup there and it's the one he's refusing.

It's clear as fucking day that he wants the accolades and praise of being a 2 division champ and he's going about it in the easiest way possible.

Smart per say but anyone with 2 brain cells to rub together can see right thru it. Sorry so mamy of us don't buy into the shit he's trying to sell.

He fucking knows it's bullshit too and even that's obvious lol

I think LHW is arguably worse right now tbh. I mean a 37 year old kickboxer who didnt take MMA seriously until Covid times vs dudes like Khalil and Hill as title fights? sheesh.

He wants an easy win over a guy with a ton of hype rather than a tough fight to cement a legacy at hw.

If the easy fight is at hw he will gaslight and pretend it cements his hw legacy and ufc stans will eat it up
Agreed.
With that said I want to see him fight Alex

Ya thats bad but dude, Lewis as. Title challenger. He couldn't even beat old ass shop worn Mark Hunt

Yeah he went there and dominated the then #1 contender and was willing to face Ngannou when he felt he was ready to move. It wasn't certain that Ngannou was leaving.... So he announced he was moving up when Ngannou was still there in the division. Even when Ngannou left, when JJ was injured and Ngannou had that boxing fight vs Fury, ppl asked about Ngannou and JJ said that he still wants to fight him and would be willing to go to another organization to fight him, or that he hopes Dana makes the right things and let them fight, because that's a fight that needs to happen. So he was willing to fight Ngannou. Ngannou doesn't deny that either. He would retire because there wasn't an interesting name when he called Stipe yet, I mean, not one that could bring what Stipe could... Stipe was 49, but JJ wasn't much younger either, had only one fight in HW, so was basically as ring dusty as Stipe. He decided not to retire, actually, precisely because Aspinall's name grew a lot, so he saw that, actually, as an interesting match, and was playing the duck just so he could elevate the fight... Since he knows he's gonna retire, he wants a fight not only with someone who is good, but against someone ppl see as "the killer", as it's his last fight. So Aspinall made him stay actually lol try to read the whole situation better and you wouldn't be so blind maybe...

He bat up Jiri Prochazka twice lol. And ppl would say that JJ went to HW because guys like Jiri and Jan were too tough for him and that he knew it... Many ppl would say that. Jiri Procazka and JJ would be talked a lot, specially with the way Jiri finished Reyes... But now it's suddenly a poor division... Lmao.

I mean, Hill was a top contender.... He is a joke now because of the way he lost? Really, some of you just can't.... Idk, it seems ppl find holes in everything. Khalil was #8, but many times ranking in the division isn't much telling... Specially since Khalil improved a lot over the years, specially after training in Thailand, and was in a 6 wins streak. His #8 ranking didn't reflect his actual abilities, clearly, just like when Rakhmonov was #8 but ppl knew he should be way higher.

I mean, when JJ defeated Gus, Bisping was all excited about lionheart, suggesting that as JJ next fight as Lionheart had been on an impressive win streak there at LHW. JJ won easily even with a 2 point deduction, then he lost to Ankalaev easily, got outclassed by Khalil the entire time and got KO'd in a way that Khalil just looked at the referee to stop, threatening a hammer fist... And Khalil didn't even use his full power there, he saved his explosiveness in the offense to Alex Pereira.

LMFAO what a load of horse shit. Jones has only shown interest in fighting Francis when it became obvious that fight would never happen. Smart move but to anyone following the sport it's clear that he's gas lighting.

Absolutely no one not even Jones has said anything about Jones being interested in fighting tom. Its literally the exact opposite and why people are shitting on Jones... nice try at telling though LOL

Except the fight has been pretty much negotiated to happen next year. It will happen. So he isn't ducking Tom, you believed that.

Yeah, it took 3 years for JJ go to HW, but that doesn't mean that "ohh 3 years is a lot of time". Maybe to ppl who don't understand fighting at the highest level, it may be... But for someone who wants to make sure to have the perfect debut in a very different category, it's better to take a big, long ass time and know they're prepared, than to go in there too hastily and lose. Success isn't fighting at any time, in a rush or anything, Volk did that vs Islam and regretted that. A true champion's mentality in the sense of wanting to dominate, doesn't care about being criticized for refusing fights on short notice or taking years... Since they want to do it when they feel they're absolutely ready to do that.

Agreed. Ppl act like JJ fighting Stipe first was a huge disservice that it felt like JJ was choosing a retired 80 yo boxer, acting like it was the most disgusting thing ever made by an MMA fighter... If it were other fighters, ppl wouldn't even comment. But since it's JJ, ppl felt like they were being insulted as fans, they felt anger, misery, idk... They felt like "ohhh Tom arrived, we didn't even know he was but he's very good, so cancel the fight that was booked and fight him now!! We are too afraid of you retiring undefeated and on top".... Or maybe they bought on JJ being truly afraid of Tom and made a big buzz out of it expecting that JJ would retire so that he could have a "moral loss" in fighting. Idk, but some haters are just weird guys...

Wrong again it took Jon 10yrs to go to HW.

He said he'd go to HW while Francis was there but he never signed to fight anyone until Francis left. Literally did it the next day cuz that's all he was waiting for lol

By your logic a true champ only fights under the most favorable terms against the most favorable opponents. Sorry but that's just a cherry picking paper champ
