How do we see Islam VS JDM going

I see it like this, if Islam loses, he can say he dared to be great, retire, and keep his image intact. Losing to illa would completely wreck his mystique

He's in a really tough spot now because he has two incredibly dangerous fights in front of him. A lost to either guy seriously hurts his legacy considering his current resume isn't anything special. He needs to beat Jack at the very least to prove that he's as great as people claim he is. If he loses to Jack, he has to go back and fight Ilia to salvage his legacy.

We've never seen Islam carry the extra weight so its hard to say. He's going to be the smaller guy in there but it might make sense to avoid bulking up and just have a much easier weight cut.

I'm leaning 60/40 for JDM hurting Islam, possibly even scoring a TKO. A lot going for him here - he's in his prime, still consistently improving, has world class experience and went at a grueling pace with a pressure wrestler that is famous for cardio.

Islam is a very solid striker and excellent counter striker, but he's against an elite MMA boxer. The power difference is going to be substantial.

JDM stand up is very, very good and has serious power.

IMHO if Islam can close the distance to the clinch, he takes him down easily and gets a submission.

Exactly. Ilia is the better fighter? By far. He's the #1 P4P (it should still be Islam IMHO, but it's reasonable).

But JDM boxing is very, very good. Great jab and head movement.

Standing, as good as Ilia is, you have to favor Jack over him. Size and reach differential is abysmal.

And I don't think anyone believes Ilia can outdo Islam in the wrestling/grappling.


I'm saying Ilia cannot beat Islam? No, he would had his good chances. But Jack is a tougher fight.

Really depends how his strength translates to WW. If he can takedown Jack then I think it’ll be a tough night for JDM, and I can see a clear UD or a sub in a scramble.

If he has a fight like Belal just had, then he’s getting KOd. He does not possess Belal’s chin.

Islam seems to have a large frame and I think he can fill in while remaining quick. I’m heavily leaning towards the former and a clear UD for Islam.

I personally think Garry matches up best against Islam and would keep him on the end of his kicks and punches all night.

Islam is going to be first time at the weight class and doesn’t have a great chin.

Also has shown cardio issues.

Without the weight cut maybe cardio isn’t an issue.

But JDM has a high finishing rate. And heavy hands. So he couldn’t finish belal doesn’t mean much.

JDM has a real shot at playing spoiler here.

I feel like it’s gonna be super close, Belal was the true test for JDMs takedown defence (he had a broken arm and was battling staph in the Gilbert fight, and had to do a double weight against Basil) he scrambled like crazy in that match and Belal has trained with team Khabib before

But on the flip slide, Belal is 36 not getting any younger has zero submission threat and that’s what gonna be the game changer against Islam, I don’t know if JDM will be able to really scramble as much against Islam with the threat of a Submission, plus I also think Islam will probably be even more muscular and stronger for this fight.

Islam is claiming that bulking up to WW isn’t going to well at the moment, and it’s tricky because Islam had a war with Dustin while battling Staph, but Dustin was also 35 broke his ribs during camp and tore his acl of the bone and made it to round 5 before being subbed, I still stand on my opinion that if Islam didn’t have to do the strict rehydration rules of Australia and didn’t have a rough cut that he would have dominated Volk, the more I have rewatched Islam VS Volk I score it 49-46 Islam but can see and argument for 48-47 Islam

Belal would have been finished if he'd pushed for more takedowns. He was punished every time he tried to catch one without setting it up.
JDMs footwork prevented Belal attempting takedowns

Belal is a bigger and better fighter than Islam. Islam hasn’t fought anyone on Jack’s level.

and if he loses to illa after, his legacy is erased basically which is good because it was a very weak legacy anyhow but if Illa wins, illa already Ko'd volk and charles, islams 2 best wins. with a potential win over islam, Illa takes his place completely
