I dont think wrestling is boring, just that is really exploits the flaws in scoring.

Sean got wrecked tonight but I am still salty Aldo lost to Merab after going like 1/26 in takedowns....There is just no reality he should have won that fight and it also basically stopped Aldo's last run which annoyed me

Ding ding ding. Why four pages of blabla when we have a winner in the first replies.

It's obvious the rules need to change. This is sports entertainment, not a real fight. MMA is already nowhere close to representing a real street fight with all its rules (no knives or nearby weapons can be grabbed, no eye gouges, no headbutts, no knees/stomps on the ground).

I think after 60 seconds of takedown without passing guard and without serious damage, there should be automatic standups. After 60 seconds of holding against the cage without a takedown, there should be an automatic reset to the center of the octagon, with a warning to the wall'n'stall fighter and repeated stalls resulting in points taken away.

I like good grappling exchanges. But good grappling exchanges involve risks with fighters passing guard, opening up for big strikes, and going for submissions. But these risks of course can lead to position reversals, and therefore control wrestlers don't take risks. They just hold. Unless the rules change, we will only end up getting more of this.

As bad as I wanted to Sean to lose last night I couldn’t bring myself to watch him get outwrestled for 25min

I built a dam and stopped the stream

The Val fight was never my friend

8/10 troll thread until Khabib pic. <KhabibBS>

Maybe controversial take but I find it funny people say it’s exploiting the ruleset. The rules and scoring criteria do not favor grapplers at all, they favor strikers. They get a free get up every round, they can be stood up, pure grappling basically isn’t scored by the criteria you have to strike. Get real.

If no one lands a punch in 60 seconds they should force the fighters to the ground so they can grapple

If no one lands a punch in 60 seconds they should both get yellow cards like in PRIDE.
Then if that doesn't work we'll tie their feet together so they can't move around. If that doesn't work we just chain them to the ring foot apart from each other and let them battle it out like rock'em sock'em robots

Nah if that doesn't work you just randomly pick one fighters to give a 2nd yellow card to. I think they lose 10% of their purse or something every time they get penalized like that.

I have to agree the main event last night was a real stinker to watch and kind of tainted the otherwise amazing night. Wrestling without damage should not get you any points. Its no different than a BJJ person jumping guard and holding you there without submission attempts. Wow, you can control another body.....cool, now use that ability to fight.

So wait, your solution to make it more like a “real” fight is to have more referee intervention and rules?

Lol Aldo didn't do shit in that fight. He got shut down. You don't earn points for defending takedowns.

No, you took the completely wrong conclusion. I'm saying MMA cannot be a real fight, so we shouldn't even bother trying to make it a real fight.

MMA is sports entertainment. The rules should be changed to punish boring control wrestling.

This has become one of the most annoying fans of mma in recent memory. It's like we're supposed to dickride every fighter and if we find them to be boring then that automatically means we don't have the nuanced expertise and knowledge to understand what they're doing and how they're effective.. NO MOTHER FUCKER, THEY'RE JUST BORING!!

There's a big difference between a highly technical, and consequential grappler who can and will consistently grapple to advance position, get a sub, and punish you with ground n pound and a grappler like Merab who not only uses shear force and physicality with minimal technique, but also just holds for as long as possible to score points.
We know what wrestling and grappling is, but you "mma experts" and "real fans" forgot what fighting is. That isn't fighting. And, when you aren't fighting, some fight fans might find you BORING.

Just want to make sure that distinction is clear. I love and appreciate grappling and dominant wrestlers. But real grapplers, who wanna finish the fight, not wet blankets. Merab can take Sean down 900 times and not get his back, what kinda grappler is that. FOH.

I don't like this
