Synopsis: A sheltered and manipulative Southern belle and a roguish profiteer face off in a turbulent romance as the society around them crumbles with the end of slavery and is rebuilt during the Civil War and Reconstruction periods.

I watched this for the first time less than a month ago and I'm currently watching it again. I really like it a lot.

I know it's not for everyone but I personally think this film is a 8 or 9/10.

Yes it is close to 4 hours long and yes it is about southern folks during the Civil War but for me it is the love story between Scarlett & Rhett that is the center focus for me that is a slow build up to the perfect pay off at the end of the film. The performances, the set, everything put into this film is top notch and holds up really well. Its also by the director (Ian Fleming) of The Wizard of Oz, both released in 39.

So do you like Gone with the Wind? Yes/no, why not?

I watched this movie for the first time when I was 8 years old, back in 1991, in the Dark Times, before cable.

They were showing it on TV one Friday night, and the film critic made a point of making a fuss about it in the Entertainment section of the newspaper where the TV listing were published, so I asked my parents if I could stay up late past my bed time to watch it on the TV in the kitchen.

Such a great movie the newspaper said. I wanted to see what all the fuss was about.

It is my first memory of hating the main character in a movie.

As the film went on and on and on I was getting more and more pissed off that nobody was shooting Scarlett O’Hara in the fucking face for being such colossal, fucking cunt.

8 year old me couldn’t appreciate the cinematography, the acting skill, etc. He could only engage with the story and the characters, i.e. a selfish fucking sociopath actively making the lives of everyone around her worse, an asshole who lusts after her, and a whole mess sniveling shits who enable her and are too chicken-shit to stand up to her.

I tried watching it as an a adult once, I couldn’t get past the first few scene without wanting to put my foot through the screen.

Sort of. It isn't one of my favorite films but overall Gone with the Wind was decent entertainment. I've thought it to be a film likely more popular with females, or as the saying goes, it is a chick flick.

I had a 7th grade teacher that used the movie to teach us about the Civil War and all the related social things of the time. I remember having a test where he would start a sentence, and you had to fill in a word. No multiple choice. Terms like Carpetbagger, abolitionist, reconstruction era etc. I remember so many things to this day due to this film. I love it and rewatch it every few years.

Haven't watched it in maybe 30 years but I've been on a western kick recently so maybe I'll revisit it.
