Finnegan's Wake

Have you ever smithed a chastity belt Finn?

could we see the finished product? or some examples of your other smith work?
Ever heard of Don Fogg? DO you do damascus?
Sorry for all the questions. Very cool video. I like the part where your swinging the cut off sledge.

When I finish it, I'll post a pic. I don't think I have anything laying around that isnt' beat to all Hell from use. I've got a machete that I use all the time. Other than that, I usually sell/ trade my stuff.
Don Fogg is the shit.
No, I don't do Damascus.
Zop: No.

Bagwork:
1 round.

Impressions:
The hand did well. Used both my really padded 16oz Top Contender sparring gloves and my wafer-thin 16oz Everlasts. It did well. Going to do some padwork/ bagwork tonight and see how it feels.
Got offered another fight. It would be at heavyweight, late May-early June in Wisconsin. Not sure if I'll take it or not. If the hand is still bugging me after the bagwork tonight, I'll probably turn it down.

That sounds like a pretty good business. Buy a peice of ****l smith it into a sword and sell it on ebay or something. What are the profit margins? What are the skills/tools required to become a decent smith?

You wont make any money on Ebay as a smith. Its a word of mouth/ hand's on thing. You need to be able to tell them why they should spend 5x the normal amount.
People don't buy handforged stuff for the functionality, they buy it for the story.

In the future, when I become a rich man I plan on acquiring the top of the line Katana on the market.

Keep up the good work finnegan, you've made sherdog proud bro.

Kickboxing:

Bagwork (Bas Rutten's Thai Boxing CD, 3 min. rounds)

7 Rounds.

Impressions:
Well, I don't think I'll be taking the Wisconsin fight. I could hit pretty hard with the hand, but its not feeling too great right now. Not a constant pain, but really sharp pain when I either flatten it out or make a tight fist. Need to let it heal up a bit more, I guess.

I bet your neighbors are scared shitless of you

MMA Fight Team Training:
You know the drill. Even though I don't have a fight, suffice to say one of my teammates does.

Impressions: People are softer than heavybags.

Finn when you first figured out about lifting heavy and the big 3 what was your powerlifting total? How many years ago was that? How many years did you spend "powerlifting" before beginning MMA? How many years have you been practicing MMA? I'm pretty sure you just started like a year ago right?

I started, basically, a year ago for all of it. Never squatted heavy before last year, started deadlifting last March, so basically one year.
MMA: officially: 10 months.

Holy crap so it took you only one year to get a 600 lb deadlift? What did you start at?

385 was my first max

Wow. Also, I used to love the Society for Creative Anachronisms. That's it, right? My dad would take me to the Scottish games and I would go gaga for that stuff... too bad I didn't care about strength until August 2007...

SCA stuff is both incredibly fun and incredibly ridiculous. Suiting up in armor and beating the shit out each other with axe handles is fun.
Having the Lord of the Rings version of a trekkie tell you that your sleeves are stitched wrong and aren't "in period attire" is fucking stupid.
I was always attracted to the combat aspects of it more than the reenactor side. You want some good conditioning? Strap 80 lbs of steel to yourself while wearing a quilted suit under a solid steel 8-10 gauge breastplate, holding a 10 lbs shield in one hand, and viloently beating the shit out everyone who gets within three feet of you with a 3 lbs axe handle for 20 minutes.

Smart.

Finn is a genetic freak.
He went from a 385 DL to 600 in 9 months. And slaughtered his first MMA lamb with a mere 10 months of training.

DO NOT FUCK WITH FINNEGAN.

That sounds like a lot of fun. And it would make it all the more satisying attacking those nerds, see how well the stitching on their armor holds up.
