Finnegan's Wake

MMA Fight Team Training:
Stuff happened.

Impressions:
Wrapped the hand up, put on the 16 oz gloves, and did some light sparring today. Ironically, my left hand got tagged blocking a superman punch. Irony is a bitch.
Anyway, rolled a bit, sparred a bit, but mostly helped another team member prep for his fight.

MMA (from Sat.)

Rolling:
4 five min. rounds.
3 three min rounds
2 two min all out scramble rounds

Bagwork/ rope drills
3 two min of this. Drilled 1-3's 1-1-3's, 1-3-2-1's on the DE bag,
15 minutes on "Bob", focused on 1-3's, 1-1-2-1-3's, 1-3b-right mid kick, teeps, left head kicks, right head kicks, etc

Impressions:
Yep. Need to take some time off, seriously. My hand isn't getting any better. No striking at all for a week.

Dumbell Snatch:
75 x 5
95 x 5
95 x 5
95 x 5
95 x 5

Zercher Squat/ Jumping Squat Complex

Random demo lifts for lifting partner

Finisher: 75 sledgehammer swings (10 lbs hammer) 25 medicine ball slams (25 lbs medicine ball

Impressions:
This is the heaviest weight I've used in a complex yet. We'll see how this works out. I liked it, we'll see how much functional combat carry-over it has.

No striking, or none with the bad hand? I don't think kicks/knees/jabs and all that will make any difference.

And ya, that's a lot of weight for a complex. Good shit.

Forget all that jazz, Dan. I did some boxing tonight. I was just being a bit pissed at my injury is all.

MMA Fight Team:
1 hour:
Rolling:
Iron Man:
2 min rounds, person in center stays in for 3 rounds, no rest, fresh opponent every round
Went through everyone.

Highlights: My triangles were on tonight. Subbed one guy, and very, very nearly subbed another one with a flying triangle. Scared the shit out him more than anything I think.
Lowlights: Caught in a guillotine off of a single leg attempt. Took a long time to "wake up" and really work.
Got back mounted twice and had to defend RNCs.

Boxing:
Blitz rounds:
Same set up as Iron Man, but throw lots and lots of combos, constant movement, etc.
Peroon in center for 3 minutes, fresh opponent every minute.
Highlights: Nearly KO'd a guy w/ a 1-1-slip-2, landed a couple 1-3's,
Head movement was really good. I got tagged twice the entire time (left hook when I brought my hands back too low, and a well timed counter jab) other than that, I did well.

Lowlights:
Well, none really. A bit tenative w/ the right hand, but it did well under the huge Top Contender Sparring gloves/ mexi-wraps.
Footwork way, way off. I was in kickboxing mode so some of my slips and feignts ended with...nothing.

Other: Did some stuff w/ a team member who has a fight coming up.

If you keep hitting flying triangles and body punches I'm going to have to date you.

Stop it, both Tamil ans Zop will be jealous.
(and Alan Goode, though he'll never admit his yearnings for my Man Nectar.)

On a serious note: thanks again Brandon. That simple weave you suggested has paid off big time.
Hell, its what I used to win my first match.

Simple almost always = best.

Note, though, that flying > simple. Always.

Well, for full disclosure, the "flying triangle" was more sf an epileptic convulsion in which I held on to one of his wrists as i 'palsy'ed at him, pulled him down with me, and landed in a triangle. I believe I was airborne for less than a second.

Yeah I generally am able to time it so I can catch an updraft and float gracefully into position, before my big head drags me down to reality and I end up concussed. Definitely worth it though. Keep 'em up, and look for a video of a flying omoplata if you get a second. It WILL be mine.

Conditioning:

Magic 60 training(April Challenge)

3 db swings (35 lbs)
3 db snatches (35 lbs)
10 burpees (with pushup)
repeated 6 times for time.

Results:
Magic 60 training: 5:54

MB Complex:
Used a 25 lbs Medicine Ball (which did not survive)
16 diagonal slams
20 vertical slams
16 horizontal wall slams

Complex repeated three times w/ 1:30 rest.

Random: Demonstrated clean and jerk at 135 lbs x 3, some rows, etc. Nothing major.

Impressions:
Not happy with my time on the challenge. I rested too long. I expect to get better by the end of the month. Limiting factor was the burpees without a doubt, and only cause I did squat complexes that I'm still dealing w/ the DOMs from a couple days ago.

2 more reps won't kill me at this weight. I'll still get 7 minutes or less.
