Finnegan's Wake

FIN:

You suggested 2 books/topics. One was ancient Rus/Scythian people and the other was regarding Ireland/Britian I think.

I looked through here to see if I could find them but nada.
Would you be so kind as list them again? I'll write it down this time.

MMA Fight Team Training on Friday. Lots of sparring. Knuckle swole up again. Dammit.
Highlight: Landed a 3b-1-right uppercut-3 combo in close. I was pleased with that. Takedown defense was really good, esp on single legs w/ strikes and pushing the head down.

Intervals:

Stair Sprints:
Each one was done as follows:
Down/ Up a set of 20 steps three times w/ 10 second rest, then 5 times with 30 second rest, the 7 times w/ 1 minute rest before moving on to the next round.

Rd 1: 3/5/7 every step down, skipping every other step on the way up (bounding up)

Rd 2: 3/5/7 every step up and down

Rd 3: 2/5/7 Alternated every step down up w/ bounding

Impressions:
The whole thing took about 12-15 minutes. Nice workout.

when you were dieting to lose weight, what'd you do?

I'm doing the grapplers guide thing, but the weight ins't coming off as it should.... Last time i did it with bitching results, but not so much this time.

Did you weigh out your meat portions and everything like that?

Break it down for me big man.

Nothing too out of the ordinary. Stuck to the grappler's guide for the most part. The big thing was the two-a-day workouts. Did 10-12 minutes of tabata stuff or 3 rounds of Bas every morning, 6 times a week, on top of whatever else I was doing, and drank 1-2 gallons of water a day.

Maybe i should start hitting the heavy bag for rounds... thanks for the insight dude.

Definitely add in some heavybag work. There is no downside to it, and a few rounds in the morning is a great substitute for GPP.

How do you like to approach the heavy bag work?

I've seen you do stuff like rounds where its only a certain combo, or certain types of punches, etc.

what would you recommend

For weight loss? Tabata Interval heavybag punches (say, one round of 4 minutes) Just do streams of 1-2's one interval, left hook to the body-left hook to the head-right straights the next interval, etc. Power punches, basically.
If I'm doing anything in number, like 200 jabs or something, its skill work. Still good for burning calories, so a couple rounds of just skill work before and after the interval session would be good for you. Move your feet, work your jab, etc. "Box" the bag.
Also:
If your arms get too tired to really go at it, throw knees or elbows for one of the 20 second rounds to give them a rest. With this type of work, intensity is the goal.

MMA:
1 hour and some change

Warm Up: bagwork, shadowboxing, running, etc

GnP Sparring:
`16 oz gloves, Iron Man format, 4 man, 2 min. rounds. Focus was stand up w/ takedowns, then GnP

Highlights: Good sprawl/ single leg defense today.
Good low kicks
Hand felt good, so I got off some decent dual hand combos
Good head movement/ slips

Lowlights:
Shitty shot.
Dropped my right hand as a punch came in to avoid it getting hit, and ate a hook to the face. Kind of comical that I'd rather take it on the face than the hand, but both feel fine.
Would have broke my foot on checked lowkick had it been full power

Rolling:
three 2 min. rounds, no rest. After two minutes, switch partners.

Highlights: Kimura sweep, regained gaurd pretty well, got and maintained side control and worked for kimura

Lowlights: Got gullotined. Spent most of one round on the bottom in half guard.

Impressions:
Pretty good night tonight. Came directly from work, so I was already warmed up. I ate lighter than usual as well, and it translated into a better performance. Perhaps my body wasn't fighting my digestive system as much. I'll play around w/ my pre workout meal a bit more and see what results I get.

I train better when I am hungry as well, it goes against logic but it works.

Kimura sweeps are great I am always attacking and threatening that when I am in my guard, usually works and if it doesn't and they have to push you down it sets up other subs. Sweep, stand, or submit!!!

Good work bro, keep it up hope the hand gets to 100%

Density Training:

sledgehammer swings (10lbs) in 10 minutes. ..

596, + 42 swing PR

I found the pre-training meal, both what it was and when I ate it made a huge difference. For some reason eggs seemed to really help my energy. That, some spinach and a (very) little sweet potato seemed to work really well for me.

Fin:

IYO, what's the best couple of Dropkick Murphy CD's to get?

I've gotten all the Real Mckenzies, yet I carve more bagpipe and guitar.

Live on St. Patricks Day is the best pound for pound in my opinion. The live version of "Rocky Road to Dublin" is my favorite DKM song.
Blackout is okay too. Great drinking party type of album.

This reminds me:

Boxing:
DE Bag:
5 rounds

Impressions: Worked on popping the jab, slips, 1-1's, 1-2-1's, etc. Focus was on footwork, closing distance, and keeping my hands up.
