The second one looks awesome. Dude in the purple tunic looks like he's getting flattened.

So are the axe handles softened with foam? Also, what are the rules? Do you have to play dead if someone tags you or can you just blast away?

They are rattan sticks technically. No padding except on the tip to make sure it won't go through the visors. Illegal targets are the hands, elbows, and anything below the knees (which sucks. I hate that rule).
You can bash with a shield but you can't stab with a shield. A solid hit to a limb disables it.
The general rule is the "Ouch!" rule. If you get hit hard enough in an armored bodypart that would normally make you go "ouch", its considered a hit. You don't have to go down unless they hit with enough force for you feel it through your armor, which would be considered a killing blow. In mass combats like that one, the casualty rate is so high you normally only have to sit out 5-10 minutes before you "respawn." If you are good, you might be fighting fresh guys for half an hour or more if you don't rotate to the back of the line.

This post reserved for something amazingly awesome.

Wow, that is so fucking cool.

I'd get butchered, but I think it would be fun.

Do you have to supply your own armor?

Generally, yes. There is one group called Ring tribe that wears the absolute minimum armor, which is:
16 gauge steel helmet w/ facegaurd
heavy leather gorget (throat protector)
extra wide leather belt to protect the kidneys and lower spine
cup
heavy, padded gloves (hockey gloves, basically)
elbow pads
knee pads
shoes

In other words, basically nothing. Think about the above pictures wearing, more or less, skateboarding gear w/ an Inzer belt and a helmet.

All I need is a helmet. Me and my catcher's gear would work great.

Sooooo badass.

What kind of pain could you equate to getting hit with?

I love swords, knives, sai, and all that stuff... I'd like to make my own sometime, just for the heckuvit, but I dont have a forge or anythin', and I haven't done any real metalworkin' since shop class in high school...

Pain is about like, well, someone hitting you with a rattan stick. It stings like a bitch, ans a really good one spreads out into the underlying tissue. Broken collarbones happen from time to time.
Stabs are the worst. Even though its padded, taking a two handed thrust from a pole arm feels horrible.
Getting hit in a helmet is a unique experience. You feel the force be distributed around the ****l and through the padding, and it rings for a second, a Death Bell.

And John, if we can ever work out a day where you are passing through and I dont have to work, I'll fire up the forge and you'll take home a knife you made yourself, gaurenteed.

Conditioning:
Random shit while helping a lifting partner max on Deadlift and Bench.

Sandbag Shouldering:
150 lbs x 6 (3 each side)
DE bag work (jabs and slips)
3 minute sledge round (swung the hammer as fast a I possiblly could. Didn't even count.)
300 rope turns
More Slipping
Shadowboxing
some 225 deadlifts to stretch out my knuckle
Towel Pullups: 3,5,7,5,3

Impressions:
Hand is sore from MMA last night. I wanted to lift tonight, but nothing really popped out that wouldn't fuck up my hand even more, so I went w/ "soft object" lifts, I.E: Sandbag and towel pullups, which worked well.
Sledging doesn't bother my hand, for some odd reason.

April Conditioning Challenge:

10 DB snatches (5 each hand)
10 db swings (5 each hand)
10 Burpees w. Pushup

Circuit repeated 6 times for time, no mandated rest.
Results: 9:21

Impressions:
Not bad. Wanted to get under 9 minutes, but that's okay. I'll do this one in the evening next time and probably trim 45 seconds or so off the time. Burpees did it for me today.
In other news, I rigged my tire up so it is vertical now. We'll see how that affects a 10 minute density session

Damn.

That seems like a very solid time for completing that circuit 6 times.

That would be sweet, Finn. Next time I'm comin' through will be sometime around the first weekend in May. I'm not sure exactly when I'll be done with my finals yet.
