Finnegan's Wake

Friday:
Woodbusting:
3 hours

Got to the sight of the next festival (2 weeks out). It was a little damp, but workable. Problem was, everything was broke; no tractor, no ATVs, one chainsaw w/ a bent bar, etc. Didn't get a whole done, but made the most of it by tearing apart driftpiles in a creek for logs that had gotten stuck during the flooding, carrying a couple logs downhill w/ the timber carriers a few hundred yards, hiking, scouting, etc.

Sat:
Total washout. It started to rain, and that was that.

Impressions:
Not the type of woodbust that I was looking for, but its better than nothing. Just means more work during the festival itself. Watched UFC 83 w/ Tamil who was up for the weekend.

Ain't GSP the shit? That crowd was awesome.

Live on St. Patricks Day is the best pound for pound in my opinion. The live version of "Rocky Road to Dublin" is my favorite DKM song.
Blackout is okay too. Great drinking party type of album.

live on st patty's day is hands down the best dropkick's album. "boys on the docks" never sounded better. the which side are you on cover is awesome as well

MMA Fight Team:
1 hour

Impressions:
Hand felt good. I can start really training again within a couple weeks. I tried a diff. wrapping style that really paid off.
Damn, my conditioning has slipped a little though. Can't get into to details, but its nothing that couple weeks of Bas won't fix.

What kind of wrapping? You doing more like the Thai style... or?

Any links to said technique?

Actually, I normally wrap Thai style, and this was a variation of it. Less padding for the knuckles and more support focused around the center hand, which as the swelling has gone down seems to be where the damage is lingering. Wrapping it tight lets me hit pretty hard, even w/ smaller gloves on bigger bags/ people. Just got to bunch it up and tape it w/ Athletic tape between the fingers to keep my palm open under the 4 oz gloves, or wear the full leather palm 6 oz MMA bag gloves I cut the center bar out of. Worked fine tonight.

Got some linament in as well. That was interesting after some shin conditioning.

Impressions:
225 Push Press still eludes me, but can't say I'm shocked tonight. Snatch Grip deads were decently easier than I thought. I started to stiff leg the last one, and that just didn't seem like a good idea so I let it go.
I've dodged enough bullets on deadlifting w/ shitty technique, and I'm not about to push my luck after, more or less, a three month lay off from heavy pulling. And to clarify, these were snatch grip, not just wide grip as I had been doing. (I'd always deadlifted w/ my middle finger on the rings before November. Tonights lifting was done w/ hands well outside the rings.)

Gear Purchased:
Title Thai Pads
Windy Belly Pad
Cyrogel

Impressions:
Gym owner is once again dragging his feet getting us the gear we need, so I decided that I'll just have a full set that is mine and not consider myself sponsored by the gym, since I've had to buy all my own equipment and still pay monthly dues.

Speaking of Murphy's, I just did a book design cover for a class project. Was entitled Drunken Lullabies: three decades of irish punk.

I couldn't bring myself to put the Shane MacGowan on it though. Everytime I see him I set an appointment with my dentist.

nice deadlifting...good to see some heavy lifting again in this log....:)

Dan Slobataur:
Yeah, the blue Windy from Boomer's.

DS/ TG: Thanks. Its nice to be lifting heavy again, but unfortunately its about time to switch back to complexes for a bit now that my hand is healed. I've done decent at maintaining weight, but I need to drop about 15 lbs or so by June to be within cut range for 205.
Not sure which was I'm going to go with all this just yet.

No. Normal grip. Hook grip would have torn my injured knuckle in half, I believe.
