This fight should have happened in February at UFC 312. Giving Strickland the rematch was promotional malpractice.

Why? I agree Strickland sicks but his fight with Dricus was razor close and could of gone either way . Also Khamzat is moat unreliable fighter out there .

I agree that Islam is the only fighter than can replace this fight, but it won't be vs Topuria.

Khabib's team want the #1 contender, which is Arman. And if the UFC NEED Islam to save the event (because UFC 318 also has no main event already), then they will have to give into Islam's request to fight the #1 contender. Otherwise Islam can simply say no, and sit out until the Fall.

Forget what Khabib wants its not about him . He quit in his prime after fighting once a year as champ. Yeah he was a great fighter but he only fought like 5 true killers /elites in career he shouldn't be calling any shots.

Oh I completely agree. If the UFC had their way, they would do Islam vs Topuria. No question this is what Dana White wants.

But you need to consider motivations. Islam's team isn't interest in fighting another 145er. They want to defend the 155 title against the #1 contender, which is Arman. Now they can't pick their opponent, but they can decide when they fight. If Dana wants Islam to fight @ UFC 317 or 318, then he will need to give into Islam's demands, and make Islam vs Arman.

If the UFC don't let Islam defend against Arman, then Islam can just wait and defend the belt against Topuria in October or November. But the UFC cannot afford this, as they NEED Islam to defend @ UFC 317 or 318. Therefore Islam will likely get his fight against Arman.

A return to meritocracy would be great (Khamzat vs Imavov), but at this point I also just want to see some good fights.

I don't think Strickland/Izzy/Caio/Imavov would be thrilled to take a Khamzat fight unless a belt is on the line since all of them can look for an easier road to the titleshot.

Imavov arguably already earned his shot and Caio has been training with both Khamzat and Strickland.
Izzy and Rob wants to fight Strickland, Caio wants to fight Izzy or Rob.

Let's hope Dricus heals up quickly.
