Dana White throwing shade at everyone when Reporter brings up Francis PFL Deal

It just does not make sense number wise.
Unless the org is just a money laundering scheme for criminals^^

Loved the EARLIEST UFC and am Still a fan! No Crying here, just calling it as I see it - going downhill from the highest upper management visible. Saddening AF to watch.

The sad thing is the tournament system is the only thing that really makes them interesting. The system is great for the fans, but they just can't get TV time thanks to the UFC. It jumps around where you can watch it and is always a secondary place with a smaller audience.

Their tournaments are almost always derailed by injuries, with alternates fighting in the semi-finals that do not deserve to be there. Every year they end up handing out multiple million dollar purses to people with 3-digit Twitter followers that nobody cares about. You might like it as a "hardcore", but it's clearly not good for the general fanbase and not at all a sustainable format. Their tournament system simple isn't compatible with an individual sport where top athletes compete 1-2 times per year.

UFC is bigger than ever. Sounds more like you personally losing interest in an old hobby instead of the sport actually going downhill.

Yeah I agree tournaments have issues, however I thought the million dollar prize was great marketing potential.

While some no name person winning a million isn't great, it is the way you build names. You need to invest and keep it up to grow fighter brands. Basically short of signing UFC fighters, everyone they sign will have this issue. They did manage to grow Kayla's brand to the point she is the PFL's biggest star.

People complain UFC has no "stars" but it isn't about fighting skills, it is about marketing. Sometimes what makes them popular is lightning in a bottle and can't be replicated by a marketing team.

Dana's not taking this well. He was really hoping Francis wouldn't get a new deal. He was saying the opposite about Francis and Jon last year

Everybody who’s been following the sport since the early days know how this ends. Lawsuits, finger-pointing, regrets, etc. You little crybabies with 2023 join dates can whine about Dana all you want but he’s right. These B league mma organizations are run by absolute low-energy idiots who haven’t a clue how to market their product or balance their checkbooks.

Kayla being PFL's biggest homegrown star just goes to show how utterly abysmal their marketing is. Harrison, despite her double Olympic gold medalist status, is a name few outside of the hardcore circle has heard of. And this is by design: PFL's whole gimmick is we're a "pure sport" where trash talking and personalities don't earn you fights, fighting worthy opponents do.

This is the fundamental problem with PFL: they build their whole identity around being everything the UFC isn't, when love it or hate it, UFC and the matchmaking model are the proven winning formulae. So you end up with is a misguided product that is at its core incompatible with the business reality of prize fighting, with all these ideas that look great on paper, and only on paper. In reality, fans tune in for exciting personalities, not some no name who fought through 3 tough nobodies to earn a shot at the title.

So Dana admits other promotions even exist? PFL is going places...

"So a Promotion that doesnt sell tickets and doesnt get ratings is buying another promotion that doesnt sell tickets and doesnt get ratings"

He also said he heard PFL is raising 280 million dollars by some suckers in the middle east. I guess thats where theyre getting the money to buy bellator.

Got a video clip or link that I can add to your OP? Would appreciate it.

Edit: Actually, I found it and added it to your OP.

ONE > PFL+Bellator

UFC > ONE+PFL+Bellator+Boxing

I said it.

Eric Nicksick did say that the UFC deal wasnt 8m guaranteed if he lost to Jones (meaning if he lost he takes a significant pay cut for subsequent fights that followed).
