Not that he wouldn't go back on his word but he did say that definitively and I think there would be hell to pay if he let Jon fight Alex next for the belt. He also said Alex can't go up without dropping the 205 belt which is also a disincentive because he probably gets choked out or suffers a painful submission with nothing to show for it besides a little extra money.

If that indeed happens, Jon will get better ahead of schedule and call out an easy matchup for his return saying Tom was a chump all along.
