Media Charles Oliveira talks about possibility of fighting Gamrot on short notice and his style, "completely different" than what he prepared for vs Fiziev

I mean nobody can really blame Charles for being the way he is being. With another loss he's out of the title mix for awhile & possibly for the rest of his career. Taking a gamble against Gamrot is a high risk, little to no reward scenario.

If he wasn't accepting a full camp fight with Gamrot then I'd be scratching my head. But fighting someone on short notice is a huge gamble. Gamrot got nothing to lose really. If he wins it puts him in the title mix. So of course Gamrot is chomping at the bit to take this fight no matter the circumstances. A win over Charles for Gamrot means something, & a win for Chalres over Gamrot means nothing, but a loss for Charles is detrimental.

Bro. This is a ridiculous take. Charles has so many submission wins, more than anyone in the UFC organization's history. He has such a variety of different sub wins too.

Yes, he has also been subbed himself by other great fighters, usually when he is rocked or after a long war. Like Islam for example dropped him with a combo and then jumped on him while Charles was still rocked.

I mean, at the very least you should at least respect Oliviera's dangerous offensive submission threats, even if you don't respect his defense..
I said exactly that later In the thread he fought lower level guys for a long while which is why he has so many UFC fights wins and subs in the first place guys who only fight at the highest levels have less finishes and fights generally speaking Charles has a very mix bag career for this reason.

Gamrot would be a nice win for Charles to get him in the title mix. Better than Fiziev and other possible options he would have.

Gamrot is for sure a better win comapred to Fiziev, but Charles beating Gamrot does not get him back in the title mix. It would make him a gatekeeper. Beating Arman or Max would get him back in the title mix tho.

Arman is rumored to be fighting Hooker. And Charles has already fought Arman recently.

Max would definitely be a big fight but he's not stepping in to save this card. Any other option Charles would have is low in the rankings.

I'm just saying that fights against guys like Arman or Max would get him back into the title mix but a fight with Gamrot won't. & that it would be a huge gamble to fight Gamrot on short notice with it being a high risk low to no reward scenario.

Charles just had a title shot. He's going to need about 3 wins to maybe get another. Gamrot is a good start. He's probably the best option that's available. If not him, Charles will likely be fighting someone in the 15-20 range.

Charles is a top 5 guy in the division.

He just fought for the title literally his last fight. He's behind at least Arman and probably Max too. Likely behind Paddy as well in line. Then there's a chance the Islam vs Topuria fight gets made either at LW or WW.

Charles is going to be waiting a while. He needs some wins.

If he was to fight Max & win he'd be right back in the mix of things. Paddy isn't in the same convo as Charles. Paddy is still unproven is still a hype job. His record is padded & him beating up an old washed up Michael Chandler does not put him in the same league or above Charles in any conversation.

Why should he be one fight away from a titleshot?

I think it's perfectly reasonable to expect him to beat a top 5-10 guy before he gets in the conversation for a number one contenders fight, given how Ilia slept him in round 1.

It's delusional to say Chales isn't at the top of the division. Ya he got slept nasty by Ilia, but that doesn't mean he's still not one of the best at 155 today. If Ilia were to leave '55 to fight Islam at WW guaranteed Charles would be in the mix of things again.

Paddy has a hell of a lot higher better chance at getting a title shot right now than Charles does. Max doesn't do these short notice fights. Charles still wants to fight on this card, and Gamrot is the best option. Otherwise he's fighting someone worse than Gamrot in the rankings.

The only reason Paddy is in the conversation for a title fight is because his history of having beef with Ilia & him being a hype job. He has done nothing to prove he is at the top of the division by any means.

& I agree that fighting Gamrot is his best option right now with Arman being booked with Hooker & Max sidelined due to an injury. but my whole point is Charles taking a short notice fight vs a guy who is dangerous has no upside to it.

The only other person I see who might step up is Hooker. He could skip the Arman fight for now and take this one. It's a fight I've always wanted to see let's hope he does.

He's one of the best, agreed.

But he hasn't done enough recently to be afforded the luxury of cherry-picking a short notice opponent, in my opinion.
But that's a common problem in the LW-division, unfortunately.
It's a division of entitlement and cherry-picking, and one fight winstreaks to earn titleshots.

He lost to Arman, beat Chandler, then got KO'd by Ilia.

As others have mentioned, Gamrot is a good opponent for him since the risk of getting KO'd/submitted is very low.

But him having worries about taking the fight when not fully prepared is totally understandable. That's my entire point.
