News Rafael Fiziev is OUT of his fight against Charles Oliveira for #UFCRio on October 11th.

Charles lost to Max in 2015 by kinda a freak injury TKO (Esophagus Injury). So Max is 1 win up on Charles and want to say that fight was at Featherweight.

Yeah I guess...seems like after so much time it wouldn't be on anyone's radar but I suppose it's still there and they remember.

I just don't see anything about Charles' resume to suggest that he hand picks fights

Now I see:
🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️

“Completely different from the style I’ve been preparing for,” Oliveira said of Gamrot. “It’s a good style for me because of the wrestling and grappling part of it. But a completely different style from what I prepared for over a month, two months, you know?”

Do you speak portuguese? I'll have to find the actual interview because people twist his words a lot. If true though, then I'm highly disappointed.

I suspect our portuguese speaking sherbro is telling the truth, but I'd have to listen for myself.

He never said he is not interested, or he would not fight him. He said that he has been preparing for a different type of opponent, but if the next guy is a wrestler, he likes the ground game too. He said that he doesn’t have any name confirmed yet, but he keeps training and wants to stay on the card.

Yes, I'm highly disappointed, unfortunately 😔😔

I just listened and I didn't hear him say anything about being uninterested in Gamrot? The guy he said he was uninterested in was some unknown mexican fighter. He just said gamrot was a very different style match up on two weeks notice, but that it's good too because he likes grappling.

Manoel Torres El Loco

In fact, he was contradictory, he said that Gamrot's style would be good, but he had little time and it would be complicated, but he was open to deciding on Monday.

He also doesn't want to fight anyone.

Let's see, maybe with a little pressure or lack of opponents, he accepts Gamrot.

But, from the way the conversation went, it really sounded like he doesn’t want to fight Gamrot.

I watched it and got more of a, "we'll see what happens" kind of vibe from it. I remember people were saying he was ducking topuria too, even though he wasn't.

Well, we'll see I guess.

He is at a point where he is more managing his career and not facing anyone.

I speak portuguese and that’s not what I got from the interview. It was more like he can’t confirm any name yet, so he really didn’t want to talk about anybody specific.

And I completely understand that it makes zero sense to fight some unknown Mexican, with 5 UFC fights, in a main event in Rio. They (meaning the UFC) for sure want someone who at least is ranked (like Rafa was), because there are no big names available.

I would say the same about Chapolin, but Dana passed on him. I don’t think there’s a clear criteria for getting signed.

Three flags posted by Charles' head coach and manager.

There is no Polish flag in the middle.
