Media Charles Oliveira talks about possibility of fighting Gamrot on short notice and his style, "completely different" than what he prepared for vs Fiziev

Lol what?! Dan vs Charles would be all action and they've both been top ten LWs for years yet never got matched up.
Arman vs Hooker is happening tho. So Charles vs Arman isn't gonna be a thing anytime soon.

Has that been announced I might have missed it. I know it was rumored. But this too would be a big fight for Dan and he's probably been training and will fight short notice. That's what I was thinking when I said that.

What I been trying to say is any short notice fight for Charles is dangerous & a huge gamble that has no upside to it. & with him not getting younger & losing the way he did vs Ilia in his last fight, him losing his next fight will be detrimental. So, I don't blame him for being the way he is being about a short notice fight with Gamrot.

He's calling out people for refusing to fight him, but then doesn't want to fight the one guy who puts his hand up because that guy is not a pure striker?

Am I understanding this right? lol.

No you are not understanding it right. The article bases on a translation error and TS posted it as truth, so everyone, who hasn’t watched the original Portuguese interview is confused now. @svmr_db you should change the thread title and correct this mess.

Can't blame Charles for that. Gamrot is a dangerous fighter with worldclass skills but nobody knows him and it won't do anything for Charles' career.

Lmfao what happened to the fighting anyone charlie 🤣
Jones esque duck Joe

Okay, that makes sense. I read the article and the parts that were quoting Charles seemed a bit unlike him lol.

If he's not main eventing FN Rio, and let the UFC without anything looking like a good main event, he's not getting any close to a TS in a long time

Charles is one of my favorite fighters but this is not the best look.

He's been fighting for like 20 years and has one of the craziest resumes in the history of the sport. Not like he is gonna learn any new stuff in a training camp.

So this isn't an accurate quote? Who knows if Oliveira will take the fight if UFC pressures him to do it but it sure seems like he has very little interest in Gamrot being the one stepping in on short notice.

The only problem? In a new interview with Laerte Viana, Oliveira said he didn’t want to fight Gamrot because he spent his entire camp preparing for a striker, not a wrestler like Gamrot.

“Completely different from the style I’ve been preparing for,” Oliveira said of Gamrot. “It’s a good style for me because of the wrestling and grappling part of it. But a completely different style from what I prepared for over a month, two months, you know?”

No it’s not accurate. He never said he would not want to fight Gamrot or that he would not fight him. He only said that he has been preparing for a different style now, than Gamrots style. He said that he will keep training and wants to stay on the card. He doesn’t have any name yet for the new opponent, now he is just waiting and training.

Maybe but I don't think Gamrot would be the guy to do it. For such a stud wrestler, Gamrot's top game is fucking garbage sometimes. He can chain-wrestle like crazy, but holding guys down and stringing together offense from dominant positions? Not so much.

This is the guy who got confounded by Dan Hooker's anti-wrestling and repeatedly put on skates by him as well as Old Man RDA who was cutting back down to 155 for the first time in a while. He also had no answers for Beneil's willingness to scramble and use leg-lock entries as a way to counter his wrestling... and Dariush prior to that fight was not at all known for having an elite bottom game. If anything, Benny himself is known for being a really good top game guy, but what happened when he got on top of Charles? He got completely shut down by Oliveira's guard, couldn't pass it despite multiple attempts, and arguably got outstruck by Charles who was chilling on his back just teeing off.

I agree that Oliveira's BJJ is sometimes treated overmuch like "the floor is lava", but given each guy's historical performances against similar challenges I just don't think Gamrot would ever be able to consolidate position on top of Oliveira with any level of consistency. Charles would be threatening front headlock chokes, using leg entanglements, etc. to win scrambles, get back up, and secure moments in the bout.
you dont have to be that good top position to keep charles down, He'll stay there and lose the fight willingly

He definitely never said he doesn't want to fight gamrot. He just talked about the possibility of fighting him and broke down the stylistic differences between gamrot and Fiziev while acknowledging it would be hard, but also good because Charles likes to grapple too. He said he'll keep a clear mind and see what names are offered to him on monday.

The translator, or creator of that article, jumped to their own conclusions and is passing them off as facts and acting like charles turned gamrot down when in reality Charles left the topic pretty open ended.
