Is there a time frame for when the best wrestlers (in the world) are gonna get beat? We could then revisit this to see if the predictions come to fruition.
'Israel Adesanya is a freestyle wrestler' is not a statement that is coming from rational logic, but from emotional logic.
In his mind, 'freestyle wrestling' is associated with 'good'; Adesanya recently won a middleweight championship, so he likely figures prominently in the consciousness of the semi-conscious lemming crowd as of this current moment; if he is prompted to 'think of a good mma fighter', that's likely something that will be thought of first.
So, if 'freestyle wresting is good', and 'Israel Adesanya is good', then those two thoughts meet somewhere inside his head and produce 'Israel Adesanya is a freestyle wrestler'.
QED
i said adesanya trained with freestyle wrestlers
When a solipsist criticizes someone, they are telling you about themselves.
Someone asked you for examples of 'strikers who use 'freestyle' takedowns' who were dominant in the UFC, and you replied with a picture of Israel Adesanya, and man with zero completed takedowns in his UFC career.
Whereupon, when pressed upon this point, you started backpedaling and dissimulating. Your only consistent point is lack of consistent point.
'I never said what i said': spin 101.
Israel Adesanya has zero completed takedowns in his UFC career.
-guerilla- has schiziophrenia.
Wynn just lost. Wonder if OP has any thoughts on this.
Yeah, he seems(ed?) like a bright wrestler prospect.Deron Winn??
do you believe that Adesanya has trained in wrestling?
Yeah, he seems(ed?) like a bright wrestler prospect.
Because ONE wrestler lost? Lol
How many current champs are wrestlers?
Since Kron lost I thought BJJ was dead, wrestling too huh?
I don't think this loss takes anything away from him as his coaches should be going insane because he seems to want to build a Mike Tyson style knockout highlight reel rather than carefully use wrestling to beat his opponents in the typical boring wrestling way...in his recent fight vs Stewart he just gassed out trying too hard to get the takedown and kept losing control on the ground
Quite often promoters admonish wrestlers to try to do more striking as they don't want a board crowd watching a lay n Pray scenario unfold yet again
His most recent fight Illustrated well that folkstyle wrestlers are not any better at holding people down then freestyle wrestlers despite that being a large concentration of theirs
the fact is folk style wrestlings hold down series is dependent on your opponent staying in Turtle as this is the only defensive position In folk style wrestling
You're also not allowed to clasp your hands in folkstyle wrestling and thus a lot of your more efficient rides are illegal hence folkstyle wrestlers tend to not be as good at holding people down as they are believed to be
I think this was a fallacy from the old BJJ vs. Wrestler days where the BJJ artists couldn't wrestle their way out of a wet paper bag and was literally taught to butt scoot their way to sweeps and submission attempts rather than fight back to their feet
now that athletes are getting some decent cross-training escaping from a wrestler is becoming Elementary...
Long story short he's a great athlete that will have a bright career but he needs to learn Tyson style head movement and striking combinations before he gets in there and tries to do his Mike Tyson impression...use the peek a boo head movement to get under and throw some tight hooks then feed you takedowns off that.
Once again what a great example that folk style wrestlers aren't that good at holding people down as a pure mma fighter [not a specialist who converted] was able to escape all of his hold down attempts scramble back to his feet and beat him at the Striking contest
typical wrestling specialist that gassed trying to hold his opponent down after a strong start but had zero submission game and wants to be mike tyson more than dan gable
Darren Stewart is trained by freestyle wrestlers and is an MMA fighter from the start not a specialist that converted to MMA

Thanks. Don't agree with absolutely everything you say, but you do raise interesting points and it's good to hear another opinion.
I think folkstyle wrestlers are really better at holding people down. Guys like Usman and Askren have great top control while guys like Cejudo and Yoel don't. Khabib is an anomaly and his base is really sambo, not wrestling, even though he definitely does train wrestling and has wrestled both with and under the tutelage of freestyle wrestlers (his father and other guys from his country) and collegiate wrestlers (guys at AKA).what exactly do you disagree with?

(I took a 30yr old commonly LAST place team to the middle of the pack in districts and scored more points than any other coach in history with my freestyle/judo/folkstyle hybred style in 3 years as head coach)
