A lot of times their cards was more exciting than the UFC.

And of course Frank Mir weird obsession with Miguel Torres....

He faced a prime Jones at hus wrestling peak and stuffed every takedown until the 5th rd and defended himself well on the ground.

What's cool is Gus took down Jones first, and he did it in the first round when Jones was at his freshest.

That made Gus the first person to ever take Jones down at all.

The only other takedown scored on Jones was from DC later, but Gus actually got Jon down and controlled him, while DC had zero control and Jon got up pretty much the moment he hit the mat.

Reyes was the hardest to takedown because he came in shape. Jones took Gus down and butchered him easily in the rematch so that might have been Jon's lack of training rather than Gus's TDD in the first fight.

All time best TDD goes to Aldo/Jones

After that, Gus seemed to fall in love with the idea that he almost beat Jon and didn't take things as seriously. Meanwhile, Jon was still getting better.

He got some good wins and some close losses, but by the time they rematched Gus was coming off a 1.5 year lay off, and was sorta only fighting once a year by that point.

Jon had grown so far beyond Gus by that point that the rematch was a slaughter.

Usman was taken down and mounted by Leon Edwards before that so definitely wasn't 100%.

Has anybody even tried taken Aspinall down since that guy that submitted him a decade ago? Ik that was a long ass time ago but I'm curious to know whether or not that's still a hole in his game.

Edit: Spivac attempted 2 takedowns and those are the only 2 attempts anybody has made on him in the UFC..
