While agree that Ngannou still holds the claim to be the best HW in the world, I think we can both agree that Aspinall has proven himself the best HW in the UFC because any other opinion would be too stupid to be genuine (especially if you're trying to say Jones is the best HW in the UFC).

He's now won and "defended" the interim belt. Overall 8-1 in the UFC, the loss being a knee injury 15 seconds in the first round. He then MURDERED Blaydes in their rematch to settle it.

What else is there to do? The UFC has played an absurd game with his career and taking money out of his pocket in bad faith. He should absolutely sit out until they give him the undisputed title match.

Imagine if Jones wins and does to him what Conor is doing to Chandler? Tom shouldn't be a hostage to this kind of situation unless he doesn't mind staying inactive for so long. And I based this on another interview he gave where he said he wanted to stay active. He would win more, earn more money, and make the UFC look more embarrassed.

Jones doesn't have the clout that Conor does, his PPV buyrates are pale in comparison to Conor's. If he beat Miocic and tried stonewalling the division without retiring or defending, he'd be stripped for sure.

Beyond that, Jones is too much of a social media diva to handle the onslaught of barbs, memes or constructive criticism if he beats Miocic (which is pretty much a given at this point) and he continues to duck Aspinall. He will retire instead of proving he's the best, but he will get roasted online and it will eat him alive.

Tom risking a (well-deserved) unification title fight, on a fight that means nothing in a division where most fighters have the power to put someone's lights out? Seems like one hell of a risky gamble if you ask me.

Dude he's literally KO'ed everyone within the top 10 except for Gane and Almeida. There's literally no one left for him to fight. Almeida fight won't happen anytime soon as he just got starched by Blaydes, the one who Tom just starched. This leaves only Gane or Jon as the only options for him and Tom has no interest in givng Gane a TS right now so it's basically the real belt or nothing at this point.

Imagine an alternative universe where Jones was rightly stripped when injured, or heaven forbid did the right thing and vacated like Hill and Jiri did.

The record for defenses is 4, Tom is 31 and in his prime time to smash some all time records. Waiting potentially years drastically impacts that and it would definitely be difficult to not be annoyed. Dude just wants a shot at being the actual champ and getting some real defenses in.
