i think deep down Tom knows he's garbage. look at all the tape study on Gane. he fumbles the bag constantly in high pressure situations.

I’m not a fan of Gane but this is a tough matchup for Tom regardless of what JBJ did to Gane.

Tom doesn’t have the takedowns to do that IMO. I still expect him to win but he’s going to have to win exchanges with a pretty high level striker and that is risky.

People forget Ciryl Gane is an absolute stud. One of the most athletic HW's of all time and a great striker who can go 10 rounds breathing through his nose. His ground game sucks but there aren't many HW's who can take advantage of it. You need to be a great MMA grappler (Jones) or a freak of nature (Ngannou) to get past the speed, counters, footwork.

Tom seems to have what it takes but I don't know enough about his wrestling to feel confident. I also don't know if Gane has been wrestling like a maniac since he was humiliated by Jones. On the feet it would be a 50/50 fight imo.

if they played 1 on 1 in any sport I think Cyril would smash him. but they are fighting. Tom's better at it.

Pretty much exactly where I'm at. I think Tom can beat him, and is the rightful favorite, but pretending like Gane is some walk in the park is stupid. Gane is the best striker in the division right next to Tom, and while Jones was able to humiliate him, I firmly believe Jones would do the same to the entire division.

Well yeah, of course Gane's a really good striker, his grapling is just a massive hole that Jones took advantage of, and even Ngannou was able to get a come from behind win by taking him down and laying on him. England isn't exactly a wrestling hotbed, so we'll have to see if Tom can get him down easily too. If not, the striking will probably be very competitive and Gane might even have a small advantage.

Tom is definitely in a lose-lose situation here. Nobody would think any higher of him if he just powers through Gane but if he takes longer, goes to a decision or god forbid gets KOed or subbed, his stock would fall off a cliff. Additionally, Gane is the last 'big fight' he has in this division as I don't think anyone really cares about Volkov (who he already beat) and the others below the list.
