Rumored Alex Pereira Fighting in March?; Rogan Says Poatan using Ramadan return date to mess w/ Ankalaev

Ankalaev fought in march before, in 2022 to be exact. What's different this time? Yeah.

Also it's amazing how some idiots think that the guy would literally fight the next day after ramadan is over. He will demand time for at least a 2-3 month camp after Ramadan is over and then you would have Pereira (the fucking champion of the divison, mind you) doing absolutely nothing until june/july to accomodate the needs of some mongoloid diva.

Don't kid yourselves, Ankalaev is a scam artist. Some of you are just too dumb to see it. Dude turned down this fight MULTIPLE TIMES.

If I remember correctly it was Belal Muhammad who fought during Ramadan years ago, while doing the fasting and everything. Pretty sure he has done that more than once, dude gets a lot of hate but deserves props for that. All these other guys are like "I can't fight during Ramadan because I can't eat properly".

It's not violating religious beliefs though I don't think. As I said, I'm pretty sure athletes and business type people who have to work during this period are exempted from it and it's acceptable not to do it. Ank is just choosing not to do that.

I guess that is technically true. Ramadan does not directly prohibit someone from fighting during that period but it is absolutely not an acceptable reason to not observe the requirements of Ramadan.

But given the known nutrition and hydration requirements during the days and hours leading up to a UFC championship fight, it is safe to assume that is not possible to achieve while adhering to the requirements of Ramadan.

Can certainly train while fasting. It's not like you don't eat at all during Ramadan. Your calorie intake can be the same during Ramadan.

But these guys come from conservative parts of the world and probably have not thought much about changing their eating habits.

It's better not to fight during Ramadan but they could get around it by travelling, as you don't need to fast when you're a traveller. But the camp wouldn't be ideal.

This is going to be a common theme moving forward in the sport. Fighters ducking Dagestanis by saying they can only fight during Ramadan.

Athletes all over the world train and compete through Ramadan

It's not uncommon

You wanna practice hocus pocus and believe in sky fairies, good for you. Have fun.

Your religion doesn't dictate everyone else's calendar and decisions
Belal participates in Ramadan and he's trained and fought during it a bunch of times now

He needs to cut weight anyway and should only do light sparring during the last 2 weeks or so.

You can fast and fight just fine.
are you speaking of experience ?
I mean did you experience fasting or is it just your feelings ?

If you want to argue semantics, i'm not going down that rabbit hole. We both know that Ramadan is a very significant religious practice for Muslims, and we both know that Christmas time is very religiously significant for devout Christians, and we both know most people celebrate new years as well.

The effects of Ramadan on fighters are irrelevant in this convo because I never once argued that they should fight during Ramadan, and most of them aren't anyways. They can take it off -- that is fine. But if they're going to take it off then people should not be expecting other fighters to sacrifice their own religious holidays just to bend to the schedule of Ramadan. March is an absolutely great time to fight for fighters who just went through christmas and new years. Poatan likely just took two weeks off while feasting with family and visiting relatives, something Merab gave up just to abide by the schedule of ramadan.

If you want to show empathy and understanding for fighters not fighting in Ramadan, which again is fine, then surely you can show some sort of empathy and understanding for why March lines up perfectly for people who celebrate christmas and new years. Instead, people call them ducks for fighting on a schedule that suits them and their practices. It is stupid.
guess we only agree on that at some level , fighters a free to choose according to their religion the dates. as you said Patan is fine with March because of Christmas and Ankalaev is noıt fine with March because of Ramadan.
I will not repeat myself about differences between holidays and Ramadan , so , lets agree to disagree

Maybe he did, but it is very hard to believe he honestly observes the conditions of Ramadan. Weigh ins happen in the morning the day before the fight so he would have to go weigh in and then not consume any food or water until sundown that day and then again refrain from consuming food or water from dawn to sundown of fight day.

Another aspect of Ramadan is avoiding any negative actions, physical, verbal, and mental including things like arguing, lying, or any harmful behavior. It has got to be nearly impossible to honestly believe you've done that going into a cage fight.

Assuming this source is true, then that's suspicious that Pereira fights in the 1 month that ramadan is observed, could have easily fought in April and got the Ankalaev fight over with.
Obv. But stupid Putan's fans don't understand that. And he doing this second time.

Easy fix:
Ulberg vs Poatan in March
Kylov vs Jan

Winner of Poatan / Ulberg vs Ank at International Fight week ppv.

Chama duck in full effect. Merab tried this same thing and was crucified. Alex does it and sherdog blows him.

One of the biggest ducks in modern MMA.
