Alex has been training with Glover for at least 4 years now. I can't imagine he hasn't improved his grappling significantly since then, along with takedown defence. If he hasn't then that would be highly surprising. Whether Ank will go for the takedowns, who knows. If he knows what's good for him, he will go the smart route and use his strengths.

As somebody that feels pretty neutral about the outcome, I’ve noticed there’s a lot of discussion about “Dagi Fanboys” but majority of threads about the fight seem to be from Pereira fanboys. Seems that fan base may be feeling a bit insecure about this fight from where I’m standing.

Let’s get this straight—Magomed Ankalaev might be a competent fighter, but he’s about to get exposed for the limited talent he truly is when he faces Alex Pereira. Ankalaev’s striking is basic, at best, and when you stack that up against Pereira, a world-class kickboxer with actual knockout power, it’s laughable. Pereira has the kind of striking IQ that makes even seasoned UFC fighters look like amateurs. And don’t even bring up Ankalaev’s “wrestling”—as if that’s going to save him against someone with Pereira’s elite takedown defense. Ankalaev won’t even get close enough to grapple without getting his head taken off in the process. Very excited for this one. Ankalaev has heavy hands and the wrestling game and no one has really been able to withstand the power Poatan delivers. This is one I feel if I blink at the wrong time or look away from the screen, I could miss the fireworks. Good thing for instant replay, this one is going to be a war.

i never got the dislike HHJ got for supporting Ank at least its bold.

but i cannot see any foreseeable scenario where Ank defeats Poatan. Ank is mistaken as a masterful wrestler whereas he is more so the standard of Caucacus wrestling and by no means a champion in it.

why? his base is his boxing and its rather limited even at that. that being said Ank is a fighter who maximises upon his strengths to compensate for his weaknesses and generally prevails due to that but ultimately his level of competition itself has not also been entirely world class.

if he stands with Poatan he is as dumb as he looks for if he shoots as early as Jan did v the Brazilian that would be what I deem a wiser idea for Poatan's TDD is underrated but not particularly exceptional either for he also fights tall with a narrow stance.

getting to him though is more difficult than it seems and this is where i see Ank failing to close the gap in getting possible takedowns but them not amounting to much either
