Blaming progressives for Trump's power grab here is misplacing blame. Not that I agree with progressives on those issues and I'm on record here saying that progressive Democrats can be pretty bad at local and state level governance but the crime isn't actually anywhere near severe enough to justify deploying the National Guard left and right. Trump is manufacturing these emergencies and daring Congress to push back and each time they fail to do so the executive branch grows more powerful at Congress' expense.
