You guys do realize this is Khamzat's one and only boring fight so far right?

We understand that, but this might just be how he performs at championship level. The harder the fights get and more skilled and bigger the opponents are, the safer he needs to be with everything if he wants to win. This might be the result and it doesn’t look too good.

Wild concept I know

And what happens if he goes back on the stool and feels "oh shit my arms are heavy now" because he threw those extra hard punches? And then he goes out the next round and struggles to get a takedown and then he's fucked.

It's hilarious that you sit watching your telly thinking you know exactly what level of effort Chimaev could've and should've put out.

Or every fight will be boring because he does not want to lose the title..Exciting fighters tend to get less exciting after they lose once or become champ

Like Jose Aldo and GSP. But I don't think so.

If Khamzat historically goes balls to the walls and instead here somehow threw 500+ strikes of which only 37 were significant then the criticism is pretty valid that he didn't fight as hard as he could've.
I usually disagree with your takes on principle, but this is pretty much spot on. He had less steam on his shots than Nelson over Kimbo. If this is what we can expect every time he has an unpredictable matchup, it's gonna be a painfully uneventful reign.

The only point being made is historically Khamzat is a very exciting fighter. We can reserve the wholesale label of calling him “boring” a few fights from now. There is barely a fighter in championship level MMA who hasn’t had a boring fight.

What you mean? There are heaps of fighters who have never had boring championship fights.

Volk, Max, Topuria, Jones, DC, Stipe. Pantoja, Figgy, Moreno, Edgar, Aldo, Bisping, Dillashaw, Cruz, etc.

Just because Chimaev put on a stinker, doesn't mean all the other champ level fighters did.

You can fight hard while also fighting smart. It’s extremely difficult and exhausting to do what he did to Dricus. He just didn’t fight recklessly. I would actually consider it to be more difficult to not lose focus and deviate from the game plan when you’re dominating an opponent like that.

Khamzat got DDP in a crucifix at least 3-4 times and still couldn't finish the fight. You should be able to finish a fight from crucifix particularly if you're getting to the position that easily.

Sounds like you can teach Chimaev a thing or two about MMA

It was a great fight, somebody should make a thread with a poll to see who found this fight boring or not.

This fight is an IQ test, lets find out once and for all who the stupid ones are

I gotta watch Holland and usman fight again, but this one was boring, Robert tapped so fast and it started with the same grappling shit that we cant learn much from it. However, people spouting CaSuAlS are likely real casuals because they've not been around long enough to know where this is heading.

What are you suggesting? Throwing harder punches?

I would suggest soccer kicking his downed opponent in the face or stepping on his head...

But NO.... the fucking fun police won't allow that!
