You guys do realize this is Khamzat's one and only boring fight so far right?

His first 5 round fight and for the title against a very strong opponent is what really happened here imho. Some of you are seriously comparing Borz to Ankalaev? Prior to this the closest you could get to saying the fight was mediocre was against Usman but that was more of a testament of it should have been a 5 round fight instead of 3 and was still a decent fight in real time. The remainder of his career is 10/10 entertaining for most. Either he submits you within a few minutes or an absolute war against Gilbert. I do think he learned never to stand up again after the Burns fight though.

I also understand valid concerns over how active he will be though I think the UFC will push Khamzat to stay active so both concerns I think are unrealistic. I think styles make fights...DDP is very difficult to submit and Khamzat was also fighting his first 5 round fight and behaving very cautiously so he doesn't run out of steam.

I don't see anyone in the division giving him that hard of a time for submission. It is unfortunate he chose to have the most boring fight of his career on the biggest stage but never the less either the next few opponents get tapped out fast or force him to make it a fight on their feet.

We all play to are strengths, and in most cases we choose the path of least resistence.

DDP was deemed a real problem, and Khamzat merely done what he had to do, completely shutting down the offence of his opponent.

I hate the pure wrestling approach as much as the next man, I've always wanted the rules changed to allow kicks and knees from anywhere, and that may even favour the wrestler even more, but at least that up's the chances of the wrestler finishing the fight.

Good fighting is far from pretty, Khamzat's path to victory has to be respected.

There was too much on the line. I get it. This may have been his only chance to win the title considering his history of bad luck and screw ups.

Now that he got that out of the way i doubt he will fight boring again.

his win vs Usman was pretty boring too. seems like the harder the fights the more boring he gets. don't forget his great level of activity. 1 fight a year before he was even champion. can't imagine what his rate of fighting is going to be now. he really sold me on the "smesh everybody" too when he kneed a guy in his ass for 15 minutes while spooning him.

Yes, the biggest, and also the boring one, he isnt boring, the fight was.

Or every fight will be boring because he does not want to lose the title..Exciting fighters tend to get less exciting after they lose once or become champ

You guys aren't making the point you think you are when you point out Khamzat usually has a lot more intensity
The only point being made is historically Khamzat is a very exciting fighter. We can reserve the wholesale label of calling him “boring” a few fights from now. There is barely a fighter in championship level MMA who hasn’t had a boring fight.

First round was amazing then he broke his hand. I give him a pass for the Usman fight. He didn’t fight cuz he had visa issues which Trump fixed. Reserve judgment for his next bout or two, eh?

If Khamzat historically goes balls to the walls and instead here somehow threw 500+ strikes of which only 37 were significant then the criticism is pretty valid that he didn't fight as hard as he could've.

He could've fought harder?

This is correct. Think about it this way for those who disagree. The main criteria in a fight is damage. If you never saw the fight and I told you Chimaev threw over 500 strikes you would expect DDP to have a significant amount of injuries or at least one major injury, right? That did not happen. Props for Chimaev to being maybe the best wrestler in MMA but hopefully this is a one off. Most champions have at least 1 stinker.
