Social Will the government shutdown tomorrow?

Lol the man said the poor are rewarded. That has to be spoken by a person who was never in a bad situation.
You would be wrong.

Feel free to respond to what I asked and save the virtue signaling for someone else.

I'm aware that people go to the hospital. It'd still be the middle class shouldering the bulk of the cost. Any country that offers "free" healthcare has an astronomical tax rate compared to the US. Why can't I go to work, refuse the health care my employer provides and get the free health care everyone else not contributing gets?
The (large) tax rate for healthcare other countries have is less than the premium workers and their employers pay for health insurance in America

Pay 200 a month and employer pays 1,000 for the premium, or be taxed 1,000 total is still a $200 “win”

The only hard part is ensuring the costs freed up by employer actually ends up in the employee’s pockets. But Republicans are always saying taxing businesses less will result in higher wages so I’m sure this isn’t a problem to any right wing person.

Call it what you want, but a few dollars taken out of my check to help someone see a doctor is not something that bothers me. The way the economy is set up there will always be people who need help.

That's not the hard part. We both know that's the part that wont happen and big business will flood congress and the senate with money to make sure of that.

I said save the virtue signaling, not double down.

This is exactly the kind of garbage the working lower/middle and middle class resent. Not only does someone else get for next to nothing what I have to work a good portion of my week for, I also have to give a portion of my tax dollars pay for it. These same people are likely getting other forms of welfare as well, that I can't qualify for simply because I choose not to leech off the system.

Its really silly to sit there and pretend not to understand why working stiffs ask these questions. I don't care how wonderful and giving you think you are. I'm not asking about that.

I am a working stiff if that's what you call it. I grew up on government assistance and it was needed. But I pulled myself up by the "bootstraps" and got a decent job. That doesn't mean I forget where I came from.

What have government workers done to you? People will hate a man that make a few thousand more than them, but let the millionaires and billionaires screw them over without complaint.
I didn’t say I’d take satisfaction in it.

This sentence itself is distillation of the disconnect between supporters of the GOP and the health of the country. Instead of being concerned of various groups losing government services and their effects, the concern is over their crypto scams. I just need to make money on my scam and don't care about anything else.
Looks like I’m getting rich with or without the government getting paid. The kid wins again.

I grew up poor as shit and am only not that way today because I've got up and gone to work for the past 35+ years. If you and I can do it, why not everyone else?

See, when I grew up, public assistance was something you were embarrassed to need to do. It meant you were a failure. Its one thing to get some temporary assistance when you're between jobs, disabled or other unforeseen situation. I have no issue with that.
Our current system rewards (yes, rewards) those who don't contribute. That's just one year. How can we sustain that? On the back of the taxpayer? You think that's fair? Whats the motivation for a lower middle class person to get up and go to work when their neighbor gets everything you have to work for free? EBT, low income housing, health care.... WTF do I go to work for? Literally the only reason is my own pride.

We're not even talking about the millions of illegals that crossed out borders each year before the Trump admin. We have to subsidize that shit too? Come on. You're being obtuse acting like you can't see why this bothers people.

I don't think you're answering my question and are confirming its the middle class that takes it up the ass. Why don't I deserve the same benefits as the poor? Why is someone who is poor rewarded with health care subsidized by the working class?
We’re going to pay for it one way or the other. If it isn’t through subsidies, it’ll be through negative health outcomes, emergency room care which is passed on to the taxpayers, lost productivity, etc. This is a far more optimum solution. If you don’t qualify for these subsidies, that is because you aren’t poor, or have a better healthcare plan option through your employer, or something like that. Are you upset that you don’t qualify for food stamps too?

I do agree with you that the middle class shoulders more of this burden than we should. But when I pointed out that DOGE could actually achieve their 2T goal by closing the loopholes the ultra rich use to avoid paying their fair share of taxes, you guys didn’t want to hear it. Kamala campaigned on closing these loopholes; Trump campaigned on increased tariffs for us and massive tax cuts for the wealthy. It’s almost like his economic plan is moronic and cripples the middle class and poor.

Guess what as a kid I was embarrassed to go the store with food stamps. I was embarrassed to to hand the store lady a note because we had a running tab. But I was a kid and kids don't work. I get you want to punish non working adults, but kids are also affected

You say "you guys" like its one side who refuses to close the loopholes. Trump called out Hillary Clinton on this exact thing during the 2016 presidential debates.

You're preaching to the choir. When my parents divorced, my mother had to get food stamps.Anywhere we went, we waited in the parking lot and made sure no one we knew was there before we'd go in and use them. There SHOULD be some level of shame for a capable adult to be getting public assistance. Its not a career.

I agree there should be some shame and there should limited on how long you can receive certain aid. But healthcare shouldn't be optional, I grew up with enough people who got sick suffered and died because they didn't have proper healthcare.

And then he won the election and did nothing.
Then in 2024 he won another election and still has done nothing. In fact when it comes to the topic of healthcare, he gave up after a week or so in his first term because it was “too complicated,” then despite running in 3 presidential elections and serving a term as POTUS, he only claimed to have the “concept of a plan,” which we’ve never heard because it doesn’t exist. Because he DGAF about our healthcare.

Here’s some real talk about what Trump has done well: he’s gotten all of you to care about his problems when it’s supposed to be the other way around.

Every time he takes revenge on some perceived enemy, you guys cheer and ask us how it feels to keep losing. News flash: you’re losing too. This MFer hasn’t even attempted to do anything for you and you let him get away with it.
It’s not even a question that Dems have had far better healthcare proposals than the GOP, with Pete’s plan in 2020 being the best of them imho.

It’s funny; when DOGE began their work, we said that it isn’t possible to cut 2T without harming needed services, and you guys said “nuh uhhhhh!”
What happened in the end? DOGE didn’t save us a penny and still harmed needed services. Trump’s policies are such a failure that it’d be comical if we weren’t all getting fucked.
