Several blue states that offered illegal immigrants health coverage “through state money” all of a sudden rolled back those programs after OBBB passed which included cuts and restrictions through federal reimbursement waivers through Medicare.

Easy to be generous with state money when the federal government are mostly taking care of all the actual citizens. California will stop enrolling illegal adults(outside of special circumstances) into Medi-Cal starting in 2026. Why would a state on the front lines fighting Trump do such a thing?

If democrats were to get their way on undoing the OBBB on this(which they won’t). You would see these states all of a sudden decide to cancel those roll backs.

It’s indirect and democrats will stress the technical talk that illegals aren’t enrolling in Medicaid well ignoring how states could prioritize illegals before but, out of blue, can’t now…

but if a state spends billion on illegals and the federal government mostly reimbursed them under one abused waiver program or another. Then that’s billions for illegals or other non-citizens that shouldn’t benefit from tax payer funded health coverage.
