Why does Nintendo suck now?

I don't bash the Wii for one reason, and one reason only:

Yeah, it is you, not them. Why? Because I LOVE the Wii. I love the controls, I love that it's not the "powerhouse" console, I don't find it choppy, I do find it fun, and I find the games much more enjoyable than anything I've played on the other consoles. If Nintendo sucked, people wouldn't still be playing their systems. The fact people do, even when they're known to be relatively underpowered hardware/graphics-wise, should be an indicator that many people still like what they're doing.

Now, the fact you don't enjoy Nintendo anymore? That's fine. They don't suck. The fact that they're still around after all these years, long after so many of their competitors have gone out of business (or at least left the console business), and their only competitors are brands that are in pretty much EVERY electronics and computer market with a lot more money behind them (where Nintendo is JUST video games), should be a clear indicator.

I like that Nintendo isn't sticking with the status quo with regards to gaming, and are looking to change how people play their games (to the point where their competitors felt that they had to develop and release their own versions when they previously said they had no interest).

Hell, Nintendo dominated the portable gaming market from the time they put out the first Gameboy up till the popularization of the iPod Touch/iPhone, and are still putting out quality hardware (including the first portable system with no-glasses 3D screens).
 
You are going to get a lot of Nintendo/Wii-U fanboys who are going to get up in arms about your comments because they don't want to admit that the Wii-U isn't a great purchase but i agree with some of your statements.

I wouldn't say Nintendo "sucks" but i think they are making some dumb decisions. They will still sell consoles, because a lot of casual gamers know the nintendo brand, and a lot of Nintendo fanboys will cling to Nintendo no matter what they do but i'm not going to be getting a Wii-U. The Wii was alright, but there were only a few titles that i really enjoyed to be honest, and those were Super Mario Galaxy 1 & 2 and the Zelda series. Nothing else really peaked my interest. I also wish that Nintendo would of released an HD console that could compete with the 360 and PS3 from the get go.

The Wii-U is barely better, if better at all than the 360 and PS3 as far as performance goes. It also doesn't have any really good exclusives yet. ZombiU was being hyped up, but failed. Most of the ports that have been released for the Wii-U aren't as good as the 360/PS3 versions also. The console will also be outdated as soon as the 720 and PS4 are released which is only a year or so away. It seems like they show up late to the party everytime. I just can't justify spending $300-$400 on a console that isn't really any better than what i have (360 and PS3), doesn't have Blu-Ray, doesn't have any real interesting titles and will be outdated soon. The only time i could see myself buying one is when they release a new Zelda like i did with the regular Wii but from that experience i found while Zelda is great and all, should i really spend that much money just to play one or two specific games? I don't think so. Even spending $150 on my Wii to play Skyward Sword felt like a waste of money after i was done with it.

Nintendo has some good titles and if they were smart and released a console that wasn't behind the times, i think i would enjoy it but they don't seem to want to get with the times and are comfortable doing what they have been doing for the last decade. I can't really blame them though since they are still raking in money all the while selling consoles that are cheap to make and won't cause them to go bankrupt if it fails.

Just because they dont have the latest hardware, it doesnt mean theyre not getting with the times.

It means theyve adapted to the current market and kicking every competitors ass.

Also theyve not been comfortable the last decade. It went to n64> gamecube > wii. Theres a drastic change. Their games now do suck though and im not buying wii u until mario and zelda 3d games are released. It might suck for us as gamers but from a business standpoint theyre more succesful than Sony and MS and in the end, money is king.
 
The only problem I found with the Wii was the controller. WiiU seems to have a better one. I'll get one eventually.

Btw, how can Nintendo suck when they make the best first party games?

Zelda is outdated imo. None of the games have been at all innovative since OoT and none better than OoT. Mario Cart on the Wii did not feel like a good racing game to me. Super smash bros was better on the game cube. Mario is alright.

I don't see the big deal with their games. They were good 10 years ago and haven't improved much since then. How many times has OoT been released on a new system? It's because they haven't done anything better than it. They fall back on previous successes.
 
1. They chose the mainstream/casual as their audience, essentially telling their cult/hardcore fanbase to blow themselves.

that's the beauty of it for me. OoT is the best game ever, and I get to play a new version of it every few years. the improvements are always significant and positive IMO.

they're true to the old school action/RPG experience. one of the biggest complaints i hear about a zelda game when it comes is that it doesn't have voice acting. that would completely ruin it for me. I like the goofy "Heyyyy!" shit, accompanied by text. I find that voice acting in almost all video games is kind of lame. Few have done it really well.

the only thing they could do to MAYBE improve on that is bite what Okami did in place of voice acting.
 
I got a Wii for Christmas three years ago. I only played for the first month Super Mario Bros and Super Smash Bros but shit got old. I only ever use it for Netflix so I could point to what I want to watch

I could never really get into the Final Fantasy games with voice acting... always preferred it without.

exactly. although i thought X pulled it off well.

i have FFXII sitting here untouched. did you play that? I'm really kind of disgusted that they abandoned the turn-based fighting system. That was the distinction that made RPGs fun for me.

Rarely do normal action games have battles anywhere near as epic as the turn-based ones can be.

Never played it all the way through.

I wouldn't say it was bad, but I couldn't get into it.

Final Fantasy 7, 8, and 9 are my three favorite games, so I was fairly disappointed in the direction the series went.

i never played those. i loved 4 and 6, and didn't play another one til 10, which i also loved.

i had 7, i think - maybe i borrowed it from a friend - but never played it for some reason.

PC and a Nintendo is all the gaming one would need. FPS and large RPGs are better on the PC. And Nintendo is just fun giving you different ways to play games and always enjoy some Mario and Zelda action.

Bunch of fools in here IMO.

i kind of agree with a lot of your post. I only bought the Wii for Twilight Princess, and was lucky enough to get a 2nd Zelda game out of it. Okami was a great idea for a port, but i had already played it on PS2. The only other games I ended up getting were PoP: Forgotten Sands (underwhelming compared to the PS2 titles), Mad World, which was a piece of garbage IMO, and Metroid: Other M, which is fucking bad ass. Other M definitely helped make the purchase worth it.

I never got around to the Metroid Prime games, but I'll buy the 3-game set when the price goes way down.
 
I just don't see the point of getting a Wii or Wii U if you are going to get something other than a PC, X-Box 360, or Playstation 3. Why not just by a N64 or Ps1 or 2 instead? Better games, better controller and better library.

That "Unique" experience on the Wii U is just a gimmicky slow response controller. I don't get it. I mean, I get the success of the product and why most people who buy it choose to buy it. But I don't get how anyone with taste can be such a supporter.

Instead of pushing the A button you move the controller up and down! Such innovation! Meh. Don't get it. Don't care that people have fun in their own way, and more power to anyone that likes it, I just don't get it.
