Why do Liberals get so offended by "Wuhan virus"?

At least they don't sweep things under the carpet. That's more than "nothing to see here, move along".
Lots of leftists and liberals actually care about the plight of Muslim women and do things to concretely improve their lives unlike Maher who only cites their plight to score political points and who would sooner have their freedom of choice restricted and have them made to feel ostracized before spending a penny of his money or a minute of his time for them.
They can call it what they want originally, but I object to renaming anything for the purposes of political propaganda (victory cabbage, freedom fries, and most pathetically since it's transparently about shifting blame for the president's pathetic incompetence the China flu).
Yeah that's how I feel. Viruses have been named after place names so if the medical/scientific establishment had done so in this case I wouldn't have a problem with it and would find PC liberals complaining about that misguided. But its the opposite in this case, it was named something else and some people who are focusing their energy on vindictiveness towards China seem intent on renaming it "China virus" or something similar. Seems really petty and not surprised Maher would jump on that bandwagon to yet again whine about the PC police while a pandemic rages. He's like a less egregious Bret Stephens in that regard

I already said that I don't have any issue with calling it Wuhan Virus, or whatever people want to call it.

But the question was asked, why do they care? The people who care are not here to explain, so I am just accurately relaying the viewpoints of people who are not here to express their viewpoints. What they have expressed is not hard to understand, so I'm passing it along.

The problem is, like I said, people are going far beyond blaming food markets for this illness. There have been lots of nasty things said about Chinese people in recent weeks that have nothing to do with food markets. Basically people are just digging up old stereotypes, and it's carrying over to the mistreatment of Asians in the United States. I think that is worth acknowledging as immoral, and we should be better than that.

What is up with you constantly virtue signaling in every thread? Literally every thread that is all you do. I think I have your figured out though. I’ve seen it many times before...

From my experience, democrats like yourself who pretend to be so open minded, caring, giving people are actually trying so hard to fit in because they’re actually not any of those things at all. They know what is right and the right things to say, but when it comes down to actually being a good person and doing something for someone else they won’t lift a finger.

I haven't personally encountered anybody who cares one way or the other. But generally speaking, Covid19 is a much more specific description of the virus, so why not use the official name? Seems sort of obvious. But I don't care if people call it the Wuhan Virus, or whatever they've been using.

But recently a lot of people have been blurring the lines between attacking attacking the Chinese government, and attacking whatever perception they have of Chinese culture and attacking all ethnic Chinese people. It's been sort of sad to see. It's not surprising that Chinese people are fed up with it, and they have every right to stand up for themselves.
Covid is actually the name for the disease as opposed to the virus which is a coronavirus and now being referred to as SARS2.

"We've been calling viruses where it came from..."- Bill Maher..
I agree with Mr. Maher for once...

I mean should we start calling out all the Europeans diseases that they brought to North America during the invasions?

I'm sure natives are probably shaking their heads at this lol.

From what I've heard them say, they see it as an extension of growing animosity towards Chinese people, in general. They are noticing an uptick in racism against Asians, and hearing people calling this the "Chinese Virus" or "Wuhan Virus" likely seems like an extension of that racism to them.

I think people are saying some really messed up things about Asians, and disguising it with, "I'm talking about culture, not people." Many people living here are still connected to that culture, and they have family in those countries. In the last few days I've repeatedly heard Chinese people referred to as unfeeling robots, and I was told that is not an offensive thing to say because it's about culture. No, that's about people. I know a few recent immigrants from China, they are not unfeeling robots and I'm sure they'd be pretty upset if you said that to their face about their friends and family.

In another thread right now, a guy is saying the ethnic Chinese are meek, deceitful, underhanded, and accurately represented by old stereotypical cartoons.

Asian people are hearing all of this, and it's ridiculous for us to not expect them to be fed up with it all at this point.

In fairness, if you were around the chinese here in California (Note I did not say Chinese Americans), youd probably hate them too. That lady buying the masks is not the least but surprising. They've been doing that here for a long time, buying up numerous properties and not living in them, undercutting local businesses so they fail and they can buy the properties for cheap, constantly insulting virtually every non chinese speaker who walks by them with absolute immunity, the disgusting social circles they've formed at schools, etc

I'm thinking their actions have more to do with their racism but maybe that's just me.

You bolded the wrong sentence. Because I said EXACTLY the same thing the sentence before

No need to argue with someone saying the same thing you are

The Spanish should be offended when they Called it the Spanish Flu during 1918, that Spanish Flu actually originated from China as well, just like the Black death in England and Europe it also came from China.

They should just call it Wuhan Flu

To answer your question is many liberal politicians are getting money from China, NBA is a prime example of this they get most of their money from China so they didnt want to offend China for fear of losing their millions, because China will censor you and don't believein free speech

Tell me more.

Interesting read but still doesn’t prove anything.

“Humphries concedes that a final answer to the mystery of the Spanish flu's origins is still a ways off”
Everything is a theory when it comes to older outbreaks,

The Black death/plague also came from China

The plague that caused the Black Death originated in China in the early to mid-1300s and spread along trade routes westward to the Mediterranean and northern Africa. It reached southern England in 1348 and northern Britain and Scandinavia by 1350.

They don’t. They pretend to because they are in the cult of pretending to think things they don’t really think and never did. It’s group mental illness and corporate pop-culture mediacan force their entire group to pretend to think something new as soon as it benefits them. It’s a cult of mental illness, self-deception, and lying.

That's why it should be the Wuhan Virus, and not China virus.

The WHO wanted to distance China from the outbreak, because Tedros is a CCP shill. If normal naming convention had been followed, this would be the Wuhan flu or Wuhan virus. Just as we have the Ebola virus, Nipah Virus, MERS.

Maher is right to criticise the media and academia's attempt to make the truth less obvious. The media and academia are carrying water for the WHO and the CCP.

Lijian Zhao, the Chinese deputy director for the Foreign Ministry Information Dept. called it the "Wuhan novel coronavirus"
Multiple CNN anchors , including Christine Amanpour on CNN, called it the " Wuhan Coronavirus"

It is just transparently bollocks for the media to suddenly shit on Trump and everyone for calling it the China virus. When I first started reading about this virus, I recalled it as the Wuhan virus or Wuhan coronavirus. Only later , pressured by the WHO , did the media start to move away from identifying it by its source. It was the WHO who instigated this slight of hand to make people not realize where the virus came from, and our media + academic is enabling this attempt at memory-holing.

They don't know where the 1918 flu originated , the US is one of the leading contenders though along with France , Britain and yes , China .

Most likely CHINA

Fuck them, they keep blaming other countries for Covid, most recently blaming my African brothers for the spread of this on their bullshit media.
