Why do Liberals get so offended by "Wuhan virus"?

Lol, in the UK, we usually call it Kung Flu Panda <Lmaoo><45>

Actually, we call it several other names as well, but I don't want the Dubs so...;)

Most likely CHINA

Fuck them, they keep blaming other countries for Covid, most recently blaming my African brothers for the spread of this on their bullshit media.

Actually no , most likely the US

That's why it should be the Wuhan Virus, and not China virus.

The WHO wanted to distance China from the outbreak, because Tedros is a CCP shill. If normal naming convention had been followed, this would be the Wuhan flu or Wuhan virus. Just as we have the Ebola virus, Nipah Virus, MERS.

Maher is right to criticise the media and academia's attempt to make the truth less obvious. The media and academia are carrying water for the WHO and the CCP.

Lijian Zhao, the Chinese deputy director for the Foreign Ministry Information Dept. called it the "Wuhan novel coronavirus"
Multiple CNN anchors , including Christine Amanpour on CNN, called it the " Wuhan Coronavirus"

It is just transparently bollocks for the media to suddenly shit on Trump and everyone for calling it the China virus. When I first started reading about this virus, I recalled it as the Wuhan virus or Wuhan coronavirus. Only later , pressured by the WHO , did the media start to move away from identifying it by its source. It was the WHO who instigated this slight of hand to make people not realize where the virus came from, and our media + academic is enabling this attempt at memory-holing.

When I first started hearing about it it was called novel corona virus and that's the name most people know it by now, why the fuss to change that? Just seems petty. This isn't to let China off the hook, they fucked big time in handling this virus both in terms of incompetence and purposeful deceit. So sure let's hold them accountable when this is all done but I just don't care that its called novel corona virus instead of "Wuhan flu" or whatever.

I am a bit of a news junkie; I was innitially seeing Wuhan virus or Wuhan coronavirus or Coronavirus. I noticed the change in narrative after the WHO instructed everyone to not associate a locale to the virus. This was deliberate attempt by Tedros to protect his benefactors.

It would be petty to continue calling it China virus, but not petty to call it Wuhan virus or Wuhan coronavirus. The name change instigation was from the WHO. The WHO did not / does not have a problem with Nipah Virus or Ebola virus / Ebola, or MERS or African swine fever. They only give a toss about the Wuhan virus / Covid-19 because China owns them. The severity of the impact and global spread of the virus made China get their lackeys at the WHO to defend China's reputation.

Maybe so but at this point I don't think it matters and I don't think the name is the hill to die on. That's not to say we shouldn't seriously take a look at Chinese influence on WHO and what they could've done to mitigate this disaster and what they should do from no on to reduce the likelihood of another.

Even so, many who I hear try to disparage the Chinese are directing all of their anger towards the Chinese government, and not the Chinese civilians per se. The Spanish Flu didn't originate in Spain, but it's what it's known as. Health organizations have moved away from naming viruses after their geographic origin, but it's really just an informal term.

I think the Chinese govt dropped the ball here, and being offended by the viruses name is the least of my worries.

If we're going to name a virus to point blame at those that dropped the ball and caused it the spread, it would be more appropriate to call it an American virus, as the US has done the poorest job of containing it world-wide.

As a half-asian I appreciate your honesty but it is what it is: a Chinese virus. Not a Japanese virus or a Cambodgian illness it is well.... a Chinese virus.

It is a Chinese virus because of Chinese culture, Milanese people don't eat bat meat. Spanish towns don't have weird wet markets like in some areas in China. Those European citizens are paying a heavy price because of some Chinese habits that have endangered public health.

It is a Chinese virus because of the CCP's cover-up and their initial inability or unwillingness to keep wildlife trade under control. Had they inspected those wet markets more rigorously and regularly this shitstorm would have been avoided. I think they're going to start doing that from here on out but it's too late.

It is a Chinese virus because well.... it comes from China. I don't hear Spaniards bitch about the Spanish flu and it didn't even come from Spain or South America. Chinese people will have to face what a minority of German-Americans went through after WWII or what some muslims had to deal with after 9/11. It will sting for a few months then it'll go away gradually. It's nothing compared to the jobs that people have lost or the deaths of thousands of loving grandpas.

lmao best joke i seen heard read in a month.

Everything is a theory when it comes to older outbreaks,

The Black death/plague also came from China

The plague that caused the Black Death originated in China in the early to mid-1300s and spread along trade routes westward to the Mediterranean and northern Africa. It reached southern England in 1348 and northern Britain and Scandinavia by 1350.

I wanted to know where the Spanish Flu originated.

Why do you say most likely US?
I heard this years ago , I actually thought it was common knowledge , they can't say for certain but it seems likely it started in a Kansas pig farm that's on a migratory bird route .

"The Australian immunologist and Nobel laureate Macfarlane Burnet, who spent most of his career studying influenza, concluded the evidence was “strongly suggestive” that the disease started in the United States and spread to France with “the arrival of American troops.” Camp Funston had long been considered as the site where the pandemic started until my historical research, published in 2004, pointed to an earlier outbreak in Haskell County."

Here's an excellent video on pandemics , it's 10 years old but very good , it covers the origins of the 1918 flu about 10-15 minutes in I think

Why is the 2014 article I posted not a plausible and more sensible origin? both cannot say for certain but the 2014 updated theory makes the most sense given what we know about China and viruses, I believe the Chinese connection the most

The Kansas pig farm theory is pretty flimsy. Most Scientists and Historians do not buy it. Kinda crazy you thought that was the leading theory.

It is of course possible. But it is also possible COVID19 originated in the US or Canada. Possible but not one of the leading places imo
