Why do Liberals get so offended by "Wuhan virus"?

People are opposed to the new terms because we see it as deliberate attempt to protect the Chinese regime and media's attempt to spin a new narrative.
No one said anything about Ebola, MERS, Nipah, African swine fever and other viruses with region specific names. We are making a fuss now because the WHO instructed everyone to not associate the vrius with a region, and we know how pro China the WHO is.
Yeah, there's definitely a bit of that too. Despite the Chinese govt being colossal pieces of shit, most don't want to antagonize them because money.

Another great post. You've been on fire lately.

So you've have no frame of reference here. You're like a child who wanders into the middle of a movie.
Why do I *need* exact numbers? That always seems to be an easy attack used by people who don't have numbers themselves.

Besides, how can there be any number objectively showing how people think and feel about Asian-Americans right now, and how that's changed over the past months? Outside of a survey done to measure this right now, which might exist, the only thing we have to go on is anecdotal evidence. Because it's entirely possible that hate crimes against Asians go down even if hatred towards them goes up.

Without facts, we are left with baseless generalizations like "People are turning on Chinese-Americans!!!" Are they? If they are, then I think that is stupid and racist. But so far, no one has even tried to substantiate that claim.

Because without numbers we have no perspective and thus are pawns to whatever narrative the media and government push. There's an old joke from the Soviet Union. USSR media published a story that during an international competition the Soviets came in 2nd place and the US came in one better than last. But the USSR and US were the only two countries participating in the event.

Joking around about your new mod powers already.

Glad to see you have the maturity for leadership.

You are right, but like I said, there's no way for me to prove it outside of anecdotal evidence, so I'm kind of stuck here with no way to prove what is obvious to most people living in NYC, at the very least.

I actually agree with you, but like I said to IngaVovchanchyn, I'm kind of stuck here being unable to prove what I see/hear with anything other than anecdotal experience. Ignoring what the media says, which like you said, can be misleading or straight up lies, the general sentiment against Asian-Americans, particularly Chinese-Americans, has definitely become more negative in NYC lately. And this is from my own experiences.

But like I said, can't prove it other than "I saw/heard this"

"Viruses come from china like shortstops come from.the dominican republic".
This is honestly bill at his best. I cant stand his trump bashing because they sued eachother 30 years ago. The crazy thing is that they arent that much different in ideology at this point.

Why would I cry? I have no opinion on whether or not you should be a mod, other that observing your freudian slip of immaturity. The powers that come with leadership are no joke, my young padawan.

Covid-19 is a much later term, I recal it gaining steam in late March. Media wants us to ignore the early descriptive term for the virus in favor of a newer term.
I am sticking with Wuhan virus.
Pretty much, not sure what does it have to do with what I've said tho..
Still, not trying to convince you otherwise -- Let Wuhan Virus be its proper name, I'm with ya.

There are actually posters who are actually ok with classifying deaths COVID19 when the victims did not test positive for the virus.

Imagine if the government did not count anyone with an underlying problem as a COVID death. Imagine the outrage. But it's A OK to go the other way.

You would think one of the most important stats we can have in understand this new virus is how deadly it actually is

This thing has been so politicized at this point there's really no knowing wtf is going on with it anymore.

I'm pretty sure I coined "Kung Flu" regarding this Coronavirus mess here in The Mayberry before the shit hit the fan.

I got a ton of 'likes' for it.

now it's offensive.

what a world.

Didn't mean for that post to come off as a counter-argument. The post was supportive of what you said.

Mine as well (that's what I meant with not trying to convince you otherwise), not intended to challenge what you said, just found it a bit confusing :v

Beers, chuddy!
