Why do Liberals get so offended by "Wuhan virus"?

From my understanding, the uptick in racism against Asian Americans is a result of the pandemic itself. I don't think anybody is claiming that it's all because of Trump's rhetoric, I think that they are saying it is already happening due to the origin of the virus and Trump adds fuel to the fire when he calls it the Chinese Virus. It's not all about Trump.

The largest Asian population is in California, and the Governor mentioned it a few weeks ago. I'll post that video below. But you can also just read the forum to see what people are saying about Asians. There's actually a poster right now doing his best to justify hating Chinese people because the virus originated in that country. Another is saying Chinese people in China are just like old stereotypical caricatures from cartoons, "meek, deceitful, underhanded" and apparently enjoy torture and trickery? Lol. If it wasn't disturbing, it'd be more comical. You can't miss it right now if you go through a few threads.

Why can't you just be straight to the point and say Trump is racist...you know you want to...

Fuck

Okay everyone I'm publicly apologizing to @nac386 because I was too rertarded to fully grasp the OP. I'm taking this major L with no excuses and will make more of an effort to read more and less be of an asshole.

@nac386 you're a good poster, and your patience in the face of my persistent stupidity in this matter is very much appreciated.

Once again, I'm sorry.

I already forgot about it, that kind of thing happens. I appreciate it though.

So how many "hate crimes" against Asians have there been since people started referring to the virus as the Chinese/Wuhan virus? Dozens? Hundreds? Thousands?

Because they're traitors allying with the CCP just like they used to ally with the Soviet Union

I am not defending anybody that used the term, and I could even understand people initially calling it the Wuhan/Chinese flu without recognizing the potential consequences of it.
But once it's pointed out that hey, this kind of talk could get stupid racists to attack your fellow asian americans, you should obviously stop saying it when you are a leader.

We shouldn't have to self censor because a few people are going to attack innocent people. At this rate any reporting of unsavory cultural practices or religiouslt motivated violence or criminal actions by individials belonging to a minority group will be censored by the news. I am all for reporting the facts.

We are going into dangerous territory here with this kind of censorship, it is like the censorship practices in Asia and the MiddleEast where certain news reporting is self censored or banned all together because it can cause social disharmony or riots. This type of insidious censorship is often used to protect bullies, especially religiously and or ethniccally motivated bullying. What makes America great is the lack of this Asian and MiddlEastern mindset that social harmony takes precedence over the truth. Our society values individual freedom over collective communal good, and that is a good thing.

It has been customary to name viruses after the region it came from or the species that transmitted it. Naming viruses with non-descript labels like Covid-19 will end up causing confusion and make it harder for people to differentiate between viruses. People often use memory tricks to retain facts. One such trick is to use easy to remember acronyms or certain phrases like "righty tighty , left loosey" . If we demand people start calling viruses by Alpha-numeric nomenclature it will lead to confusion and wrong recollection. It is easier to remember a word like Ebola virus or MERS than some Alpha-Numeric concotion.

The other fact is that not calling it the Wuhan virus is playing into the CCP and Tedros' dictat.

"We've been calling viruses where it came from..."- Bill Maher..
I agree with Mr. Maher for once...

I prefer "The CCP virus" or we could just make it "the CCP Wuhan virus" ??

but I have no idea, seems idiotic considering MERS and the Spanish Flu were named after places

I call it the WuFlu. Don't much care if people don't like it as it's saved on my phones dictionary and I don't care to change it.

I'm thinking those racist were racists before hearing the term Wuhan flu. I'm thinking their actions have more to do with China's actually actions, not because they heard a word.

Still no justification at all though

Well since he cites scientists using this convention, are scientists calling it the "Wuhan virus" or "Chinese virus"? Doesn't seem like it, looks like most call it novel corona virus. Doesn't bother me either way but honestly I see more people annoyed that we're not calling it the "China virus" than I see people offended by that term.

Also lol at him trying to shoe horn in an anti-Islam point to score points against liberals when liberals probably do more for Muslim women's rights than the people who complain about the PC police like Maher.

Probably do more for Muslim women's rights like our ultra lib PM who refused to condemn FGM as barbaric? Political correctness is hampering open discourse to the point where I very much doubt you're correct.

Really? You think anti-PC types like Maher and Shapiro do more for Muslim women's rights than liberals? Somehow, I doubt it.

At least they don't sweep things under the carpet. That's more than "nothing to see here, move along".

It’s almost as if COVID -19
Does not mean Chinese Originated Virus Identifed in 2019
Leftists might want to concede this point
You’re not going to win any election pandering to China

COVID = COronaVirus Disease.

They can call it what they want originally, but I object to renaming anything for the purposes of political propaganda (victory cabbage, freedom fries, and most pathetically since it's transparently about shifting blame for the president's pathetic incompetence the China flu).
