Why do Liberals get so offended by "Wuhan virus"?

It was called Coronavirus from the beginning, the only reason why Trump is saying Wuhan Virus/Chinese Virus is to talk shit about China...Specially for retaliation because of all the bullshit propaganda china has been saying about how the USA is responsible.

Look if the virus was called Wuhan Virus from the beginning, I would have no problem...but it's clear that the name change is because of Trump having an agenda/just to hate on china.

Also the other aspect is that dumb fucking racist are attacking asians now because of this....These idiots hear china, china, china, and their dumbass brain short circuit, thus they commit racist acts against Asians here in the USA...So this is another reason why this Wuhan virus narrative is not a great thing.

From what I've heard them say, they see it as an extension of growing animosity towards Chinese people, in general. They are noticing an uptick in racism against Asians, and hearing people calling this the "Chinese Virus" or "Wuhan Virus" likely seems like an extension of that racism to them.

I think people are saying some really messed up things about Asians, and disguising it with, "I'm talking about culture, not people." Many people living here are still connected to that culture, and they have family in those countries. In the last few days I've repeatedly heard Chinese people referred to as unfeeling robots, and I was told that is not an offensive thing to say because it's about culture. No, that's about people. I know a few recent immigrants from China, they are not unfeeling robots and I'm sure they'd be pretty upset if you said that to their face about their friends and family.

In another thread right now, a guy is saying the ethnic Chinese are meek, deceitful, underhanded, and accurately represented by old stereotypical cartoons.

Asian people are hearing all of this, and it's ridiculous for us to not expect them to be fed up with it all at this point.
@everyone

Is an increase in racism against Asians prior to this pandemic a real thing? By who?

I'm asking this question sincerely, because I haven't seen it at all. I live in the Midwest where there aren't very many Asians, though. I find it kind of confusing because the only bigotry I ever see against Asians is from the radical left saying dumb shit about how Asians have white privilege by virtue of being smart and successful.

Didn't Trump start calling it Chinese Virus after officials in China tried to say it was a US bioweapon?

I'm sure its happened a few times but I think the frequency is being exaggerated because its Trump that said it.

Not sure if Trump started or China started it...but yes I said in the post that the reason Trump is calling it the Chinse/wuhan virus is to talk shit about China/retaliation of China's propaganda bullshit around the internet.

Like I said, if the official name of this virus was Wuhan Virus, I would have no problem with it, but it's the coronavirus, that was the name that took off....Now the only reason it's being called the Wuhan virus, is to talk shit about china....That's it....It's not being said to be factually accurate/because that was the name since the beginning, it's just to talk shit.

Yeah I can tell nobody has ever said to you, “no I mean where are you really from?” The fact is Asian Americans often have their Americanness questioned.
I'm part Asian and I ask Asians where they're from. It's a phrase of English.. People are clearly just asking about your ethnicity. you're reading more into it than is there.

It's the other way around. Look at reddit: the 'wuhan flu' subreddit was created like a month before the 'coronavirus' subreddit. Everyone was calling it the wuhan flu or the wuhan virus for its common name back in January, then the WHO changed the virus' common name for political reasons.

I don't, it's just everyone prefers coronavirus except people with an agenda.

I admit we China Virusers have an agenda.. our Agenda is to fight the Nasty Communist Chinese propaganda.

Sooner or later we will be forced to pick sides on this.

Lijian Zhao, a Chinese politician and Deputy Director of the Foreign Ministry Information Department called it the "Wuhan novel Coronavirus" on the Chinese version of twitter, on Feb 2nd.

Yea and he and Pomoeo explicitly stated not to trust online postings that blames America...

I would say Trump has been more diplomatic with Beijing than they desserve at this point.

He could have flat out called them out a Nasty Empire! Taking a page out of Ronald Reagan.. "Evil Empire statement"
Can we help Trump come up with a witty smack talk againts Xi?

Some thing like" Mr.Gorbachiev teardown this wall!"

Mr.Xi Tear down this ??????????

From my understanding, the uptick in racism against Asian Americans is a result of the pandemic itself. I don't think anybody is claiming that it's all because of Trump's rhetoric, I think that they are saying it is already happening due to the origin of the virus and Trump adds fuel to the fire when he calls it the Chinese Virus. It's not all about Trump.

The largest Asian population is in California, and the Governor mentioned it a few weeks ago. I'll post that video below. But you can also just read the forum to see what people are saying about Asians. There's actually a poster right now doing his best to justify hating Chinese people because the virus originated in that country. Another is saying Chinese people in China are just like old stereotypical caricatures from cartoons, "meek, deceitful, underhanded" and apparently enjoy torture and trickery? Lol. If it wasn't disturbing, it'd be more comical. You can't miss it right now if you go through a few threads.

Fuck

Okay everyone I'm publicly apologizing to @nac386 because I was too rertarded to fully grasp the OP. I'm taking this major L with no excuses and will make more of an effort to read more and less be of an asshole.

@nac386 you're a good poster, and your patience in the face of my persistent stupidity in this matter is very much appreciated.

Once again, I'm sorry.

People are "offended" because Trump said it. You'd have to be pretty dumb to not realize he was talking about the Nation of China and not your neighbors. So either they are functionally retarded or they are pretending to be offended to try and score points against Trump
Nope.
It's just a dumb and irresponsible thihng for a leader of a multicultural country to say. Trump just doesn't have the common sense to not say the things that no one else would say outloud.

There are a lot of pretty dumb people that couldn't tell the difference between a Chinese, Japanese, Korean, or Thai if their lives depended on it, and there are dumb people that will use this virus as an excuse to discriminate against Asian AMERICANS and their businesses. That is where the concerns of racism come from.

You can talk about the origin of the virus and put plenty of blame on China without being insensitive to your own native Chinese american population. It is needlessly divisive, and is only going to stir up trouble to attach countries to viruses, especially in a multicultural place like the states

I already forgot about it, that kind of thing happens. I appreciate it though.

But the media was calling it the Wuhan/Chinese Flu before Trump did.

I from this point forward am calling it the Chairman Xi Sweet & Sour flu

I am not defending anybody that used the term, and I could even understand people initially calling it the Wuhan/Chinese flu without recognizing the potential consequences of it.
But once it's pointed out that hey, this kind of talk could get stupid racists to attack your fellow asian americans, you should obviously stop saying it when you are a leader.
