Who am I?

I was born in the south but moved to Philly. I took up boxing at the suggestion of my cousin, a HW contender. I beat the Hurricane, and Boom Boom, Mean Joe, The Worm and Smoky. I beat Barney’s best friend and Mr. Wilson’s menace. But, I am best known for a split decision win against a legend.
This one is tricky. I thought Haughen at first but thats not right.

Rubin Carter and Ray Mancini? How does this add up... Can't figure it out.

this guy is a relatively unknown SMW champ from a while back I think, but no name comes to mind

This is really annoying me, i remember this happening, and i cant for the life of me remember his name, im not even sure if it was SMW, but it was around that weight, and i am also not sure if it was one of the big 3/4 alphabet titles.

I'll give this hint- more than one people can have a nickname! the real clue is more in the legend...

Boogaloo Watts ? Said Hurricane may be Cyclone Eugene Hart, the legend should be Hagler, and The Worm is The Worm.

yup -- should have precluded your participation!

anyone ever wonder where some of these guys are? be nice to get some interviews with them.

I began my career 15-5 with all five losses coming via L10 to a who's who of the middleweight division of the time. I then went 12-0 including winning a major world title before losing it via KO in MSG. After which I went 13-6-1 to close out my career including first-round KO wins over an "Emperor" & a "Tank" & a first-round KO loss to an "Acorn".

WHO AM I?

I was trained by Gil Clancy and Howie Albert. I was once considered a contender at Light heavyweight & Heavyweight.

I decked José Torres but was ultimately stopped by he & Floyd Patterson.

I was the only man to fight the Lion of Flanders, The Easton Assassin & Gypsy Johnny Frankham in the same career.

Charley Green

Charley Green

Spot on, @defjaam. Charley "Devil" Green. Who was in the MSG crowd eating a hotdog & drinking a beer while waiting for the fights to start when he was approached by the matchmakers about stepping in & fighting in the night's main event vs former world light heavyweight champion Jose Torres. Torres has been scheduled to fight contender Jimmy Ralston of Buffalo but Ralston literally pulled out of the fight in the locker room necessitating a new opponent.
Green shocked Torres & the MSG crowd when he dropped Torres heavily in the first & had him badly hurt at the bell. He dropped Torres again in round two & appeared to be on his way to a huge upset win when he walked into a desperation right-hand counter & was knocked out.
Torres loved to talk about that final fight of his & can be seen here with former world middleweight champion Gene Fullmer & me in Canastota recounting that night in 1990.

I had 27 siblings. One of my brothers won our country’s first ever Olympic medal – a silver in boxing. 28 years later I fought in the Olympics as well. I won the Welterweight title in my 26th fight, defeating an undefeated champion. I never lost that belt in the ring. In challenging to reclaim the welterweight belt, I lost a disputed split decision to an undefeated champ.

Ike "Bazooka" Quartey.

was it the 28 kids? amazing he fought in the Olympics 28 years after a sibling. Family reunions must suck.

It had to do with the country and the title lost with no L.

One bad mofo.
