Who am I?

I came to the U.S. at 10 and served in its Army. I am a college graduate and a member of the boxing HoF. I became a lineal champ in Wembley stadium, beating a Brit to the body and liver. My first defense was against another college grad- purportedly the first title fight between college grads. We were tied on the cards in the 14th, but I took him out in the 15th. I lost my title by split decision to a legend, in his backyard. I took a dive against Danza, have been on the Voyager and argued about beer.

Carlos Palomino. Believe it or not, the TV references are what gave it away.

They couldve had a good movie based on them had the sexual stuff never happened.

The Fighting Hiltons
ya, that would kill it for me, the wierd thing is, in the interviews, the one who did the molesting seemed like a sensible guy. coulda been the alcohol, i hate alcohol, i really do, it makes people do all kinds of crazy shit which they have to live the rest of their lives with, not just the morning after when they go "what the fuck did i just do?".

I am the only lineal champ from my country, in my division. My reign wasn’t a year long. I took the title from a fish and lost it to an animal. There is a debate about how many times I hit the deck when I lost the belt. Some have it as high as 12! I have the second most victories all time in my weight class and the most Kos, although honestly, many of my opponents took a dive, one under threat of death. I’ve played tug a war with gorillas, wrestled with champs and been the subject of a comic.

Primo Carnera.

WHO AM I...?

I contested versions of the World Light - Heavy and Heavyweight Championships, losing on points over 15 rounds on each occasion.

I went the distance with Ali but was stopped by Frazier. I also KOd, arguably, the greatest light heavyweight champion in history.

It was the Frazier that threw me- oddly, not the clay

Foster jones was a great fight. Fed foster to a skilled fighter too early. Jones was crafty and had a great punch

Plenty of folks think he beat clay, too

Yeah, Jones was something special.

I won a title 8 weight classes above my career debut, and fought a legend 9 weight classes above my debut. Nearly 70% of my wins were by stoppage. I’ve been in movies, television shows, and have released albums.

I've thought of like 5 guys who meet all but 1 criteria. Stumped on this one.

Who were the ones you ruled out?

would it help if I clarified there actually weren't that many divisions when he boxed-- but if there were the ones of today...

I was going to ask that actually. That narrows things down pretty dramatically, eliminates almost everyone I thought of.

Ray Robinson but the weight classes are wrong.

Damn, last one has me stumped. I'm going to be pissed if its an obvious one.

this guy is a relatively unknown SMW champ from a while back I think, but no name comes to mind

I was born in the south but moved to Philly. I took up boxing at the suggestion of my cousin, a HW contender. I beat the Hurricane, and Boom Boom, Mean Joe, The Worm and Smoky. I beat Barney’s best friend and Mr. Wilson’s menace. But, I am best known for a split decision win against a legend.
