Who am I?

My career spanned 20 years. I am a three time World Champ, although I lost 2 of my first 6 fights. I lost consecutive fights 3x. I successfully defended my titles 4, 0 and 0 times. The first two belts I won were vacant titles. The 3rd time I took it form a member of one of boxing's royal families, by split decision. The unofficial scored thought I lost 119-110! I vacated that belt, fought for another belt, and lost when my corner stopped the fight.

I was born in South America, but you would never guess it from my name.

This one is a tough one buddy. I know that I'm going to kick myself when I find out the answer if I don't think of it first.

Were his three title reigns all in the same weight class?

Verno Phillips?

thought that one would run longer. tough crowd!

You brilliant SOB. You're spot on. Phillips was born in Belize City.
I was thinking it was someone in the lower weight classes for some reason.

Took me all day and was really bugging me. I came up with the Spinks/royal family connection really early but for some reason, spaced on Cory Spinks. For some reason, I started thinking of Zab Judah and Baldomir and then it wasn't far to get to Spinks, then Phillips.

sometimes I'd like to pretend Corey isn't a Spinks at all!

Verno Phillips was the guy who really exposed to me how easy Paul Williams was to hit. Against Margarito, it was understandable but old grizzled Phillips was landing big overhands on Williams.

Who am I?

I was a frequent fighter on Tuesday Night Fights, I had a lot of highlight reel KOs.

Only one guy defeated me, Reggie Johnson.

I was seriously on "fire". Then I got HIV.

Based purely on resume, he's quite underrated, IMO. He beat Mayorga fresh off his wins over Forrest. Beat Zab when he was relevant, almost upset Taylor going up in weight. He had some OK wins.

I was born in London & won my first 24 fights by KO. Then I was stopped on cuts by a future world champion. I went 8-4 in my next dozen fights with all four losses also coming to former world champions. The last of which was a rematch against the first fighter to beat me. After which, I finished my career on an 11-5 run. Despite my 40 KO victories & an exciting style I never got the opportunity to fight for a world title.

I remember this guy but can't remember his name. TNF was the best. Pretty sure he was a champion when he got HIV.
