lmao you know me too wellIts either Cuban or East Euro, possibly a Soviet country,
@ironfist05 is a fan of the smaller weights so it could be Asian as well
I want to say Kid Chocolate, the original one, but I dont think that fits into his summary
yupCuban or no?
yupSlick compared to top boxers where he lives. Sounds Mexican
he's cuban (hence orthodox, as opposed ot the long tradition of southpaw cubans) but fled cuba to mexico, so some put him down as mexican (hence slick, as opposed to the traditional mexican style). That's what made me ask if its Cuban or not?
wow that's aweseom, did he ever talk about Napoles?Well, he's Cuban by birth but fought the majority of his career in Mexico.
After my boxing career was over I was an inspector for the NYSAC for a while & Billy Backus was my boss. Backus was the fighter that stopped Napoles on cuts & took the world welterweight title from him back in 1970.

It took me a bit but I figured it out. LOL.fuck, you got it!
sick pic too!
Oh yeah. All the time. He was shocked that his right hook was as effective as it was that night ( Billy was a rugged, walk-in banger of a southpaw ) & he says it caused the worst cut that he'd ever seen up to that point. In a rather ironic turn, his own career was ended on an eye injury when a Pipino Cuevas left hook shattered his eye socket in the first round of their title fight in 1978.wow that's aweseom, did he ever talk about Napoles?

I rocked Max Baer in sparring. Before fighting for a title I beat 5 future or past champions. My father and law and I often argued, but once we brawled in his house. I broke my hand, postponing an infamous fight. One of my Ring magazine photos ended up on the cover of a record.
Billy Conn?

i don't think i ever actually watched the chavez laporte fight, laporte was a tough fighter with a great chin, fought all the top guys around for the most part, nice guy from what i see in interviews.Oh no, that wasn't just a few biased fans who thought that Laporte beat Chavez that night. I was there at MSG for that fight ( I was a sparring partner for Matt Hilton who fought on the undercard ) & everyone there thought that Juan did a number on him. The decision was horrible IMO.
Laporte & I at MSG 12/12/86

That was also the night that "Bonecrusher" Smith dropped Tim Witherspoon three times in the first round to take his WBA heavyweight title. I worked in Smith's corner as a second.

Thanks, man. I appreciate it.Wow, I know La Porte was tough as nails but lacked some technique so I dismissed my old man thinking he was just being biased towards his guy, im def gunna go and watch that one.
It must be awesome to work with all those guys and meet them. You’re like the Golden Sparring Partner hehe very cool man!
Thanks, man. I appreciate it.
I did have my own boxing career all during my sparring days but the truth is I made more money as a sparring partner than I did fighting.

how big of a violation is it for sparring partners to talk about the camps? Like Margarito talking about Oscar not working, a fired guy jumping to another camp? I would assume durability, skills and ability to mimic opponent attributes is key, but discretion and being trustworthy is a close second.

the hiltons should have had a lot more success but they were pretty rowdy out of the ring. talented fighters, i watched a docu on them, it was pretty sad. I was just thinking about cyzz yesterday because i watched some fights he was calling, we've heard he was working as a grocery checker awhile ago and people acted like it was something to be ashamed of which is stupid.Well, I wasn't one of those guys that could mimic other fighter's styles. That definitely wasn't my forte. I was just an aggressive walk-in banger who put a lot of pressure on my opponents. And, I was very durable. Other than my non-stop body attack & left hook to the liver my best attribute was my chin. I was never off my feet in the ring or in the gym. Which was pretty impressive considering the talent that I fought & sparred with.
The fighter that came the closest to putting me on the canvas future world light-middleweight champion Matthew Hilton who separated/bruised my ribs while sparring. When he hit me with the hook that did it I was on the ropes & I squatted down on the bottom rope. Had it occurred in the middle of the ring though I've no problem admitting that I'd have gone down though. Cause it hurt like hell & I couldn't breathe afterward.
Matt Hilton & I after sparring in Buffalo in 1985.

Simon Brown almost dropped me too when he rocked me with a right uppercut in 1989. It broke my nose for the second time.

The only man to stop me as a pro was Dio Colome back in 1985. He stopped me on a badly cut eye. Here we are at the press conference for our fight.

The hardest puncher that I ever sparred with was Bobby Czyz though. He outweighed me by about 15-20 pounds at the time but he needed to spar a few rounds & I was available. He was a gentleman though & he didn't take advantage of his size aside from when he caught me with a left hook that nearly took my head off. It felt like the ceiling had fallen in on me. But, I stayed on my feet.

They couldve had a good movie based on them had the sexual stuff never happened.I knew the whole Hilton clan very well from 1985 to 1990 & they ran the gamut from being saints when they were sober to the worst kinds of sinners that you can imagine when they were drinking heavily. The dichotomy was startling.
Matt was the most talented & should have reached far greater heights than he did. He had massive power & could box as well when he was in top condition & focused. He was the best behaved of the boys too but when drinking he could make the most ridiculous choices. Such as robbing a donut store while loaded. Had he reached his potential he'd have won titles at '60& '68 as well.
Davey was brilliant as well but couldn't stay off the suds which caused him to campaign well above his ideal weight of 147-154. And yet, he was still able to win a world title at 168 after years in prison because of all that nasty business with his daughters. UGH! All these years later & I still can't get my head around that shit. I fed those girls bottles when they were babies.
Alex was the hardened streetfighter. The one that you least wanted to fuck with when he was on a bender. But, again, so cool when he was sober. I remember getting a letter from him from jail recounting how he got jumped by a group of guys with socks full of batteries & how badly he was beaten up by them but he was the one who wound up sending them to the infirniry while he walked away from it.
The Hilton family always had their demons but their real downward spiral began when Stewart was killed in a car wreck in 1986. They never really seemed to recover from his tragic death.
