White: Velasquez vs Dos Santos III could be a while away

JDS should fight his way back, like Cain did. If it wasn't for the Overeem suspension and injuries this year Cain would likely have had to win more to get a rematch. JDS should also have to beat some guys to get back in a title fight.

Unlike many who have written him off, I think JDS could beat Cain again. I just think there has to be a good reason for an immediate title rematch, and we didn't see that the other night.

I'd rather JDS build himself back up first. They need to create hype around him and Cain fighting again. An immediate rematch will seem tired and have little hype to go along with it. A lack of hype = a lack of excitment in favor of the fight.

Lets do JDS/Carwin II first.

Uhm? Not fighting Nelson gets Carwin a rematch vs JDS?

Now is the perfect time for JDS VS Overeem. If JDS wins, he gets his rematch. If Overeem wins, there is no question he is the other top2 guy up there with Cain.

Perfect time???

Overeem is booked to fight Bigfoot ...

JDS is probably hospitalised right now ...

Not the perfect time.

i dont think a rematch will work yet. i hope JDS fights 1 to earn a rematch and Cain defends the belt once against someone else (maybe reem if he wins against silva).

This,

But the Dana White conspiracy theorists on here will ignore you ... and claim Dana was "gifting" Cain a title shot because of his Mexican heritage ... Sherdog.

Good. The division is too stacked to have it put on hold again for a third fight. It would benefit both of them to wait.

Half true.

Yes, Cain earned his title shot fair and square when he destroyed Big Foot.

Also true is Dana likes Cain for his marketability to the Mexican market. Dana wasn't only pissed after the first UFC on Fox card cause it ended quick, believe me.

Because Overeem failed a drug test... Junior was mean't to fight him. -_-

Your point is? I'll keeping saying it since you're too thick head to listen. Cain was guaranteed a title shot with a win over Frank Mir before Overeem was suspended. Look it up and stop using the same excuse.

Respond to me again with a message like this and it won't be pretty.

This isnt like losing a normal fight. He got demolished. Brain damage, concussion, outstruck, taken down first 30 seconds of the fight, gassed out, etc. Give him a year or two to get on Cain's level. Maybe some more experience under his belt before trying to take on the Champ.

I'm not a huge fan of rematches (except in the case of controversial decisions) but honestly if all Cain had to do was win 1 fight after getting brutally KOed, then JDS should just need 1 impressive win to get another shot.

I agree with the Mexican heritage business angle, but like I said in my post before, if Overeem hadn't been suspended and other HWs hadn't been injured at key times last year then Cain would have had to win more than once to get his rematch.

Guess it all shook out pretty well for Dana, he gets a potential grudge match and his Mex champ back.

Good to here its gonna take JDS at least 6 months to heal from the beating he took..

For some strange reason people seem to think that a 64 second KO and a 25 minute dominate beating are on equal grounds.

They aren't, being dominated in that manner is harder to justify a rematch because you can't simply chalk it up to just being "caught" by a punch. Being KO'd quickly could happen to anyone, being dominated in the fashion JDS was makes it appear that Cain is the better fighter, and he needs to prove that he has improved in order to justify the third fight.

I don't necessarily agree with that because they are 1-1 so a quick third fight shouldn't be out of the question.

.

Rightly so.
This match was too soon too, even if Cain won the fight.
You shouldn't get a rematch off of a one round fight after being KO'd in 60 seconds.
You shouldn't get a rematch if you get dominated for 25 minutes.

Give JDS two years to rebuild his skill set, knock people out and make people fear him again. Let Cain keep improving and let's see the third then.

The way I see it, Cain has two possible title contenders before he fights JDS and JDS has two top 10 fighters he also needs to beat before getting the rubber match.

Cain fights the winner of Overeem vs Bigfoot while JDS welcomes Cormier into the UFC, then Cain, if he wins his last fight, fights the winner of Werdum vs Big Nog. If JDS beats Cormier ( which I seriously doubt he will ) then fights the next best contender in Josh Barnett. If both Cain and JDS beat their two respective opponents then they get the third fight.

Personally I want to see the rematch, but this win was so dominant by Cain that I really want to see JDS earn his way back up and I also want to see Cain challenged by other top 5 guys.

Of course if JDS completely demolishes Cormier ( which I dont think he will ) then maybe he could skip Barnett, maybe.....We

I don't wanna see a 3rd fight so soon, should seriously be at least 2 years.

no need to rush to a rematch. there are a couple of other guys in the mix.

let's see how they both do in their next fights. then we can decide about a rematch.

they are both young and if they are as good as most think that they are, another fight will take care of itself

Agreed. JDS will need a fight while Cain is kicking the shit out of Overeem... not sure who that is but I hope it's Werdum in the rematch, not so sure Junior will catch him with that massive uppercut twice... will be interesting to see how Junior adapts to fighting another guy he KO'd.
