Where the hell did all these Leon Edwards fans come from?

Been saying he deserved the TS long before now. Those 6 canceled fights since Covid weren’t his fault. And I thought it was crap when the UFC stripped him of his 3 ranking until he agreed to fight Borz. I wouldn’t say I’m a fan, but I’ve never had anything against him. And I’m glad he won the title.

Pretty much sums up how I feel about Leon. It’s Always the problem with him. Don’t dislike him and don’t like him. I think that’s pretty much the common consensus on him…..He’s forgettable. Happy he won the title though cause damn the dude has had just a terrible string of bad luck and he’s gets a moment etched in the history books forever.

Well I think you have to be fair. When somebody comes out and KO's one of the most dominant champions of all time, he get's respect. So don't confuse fandom with admiration of what the man accomplished.
Respect to Usman, but he wasn't.

They are GSP fans in disguise.

This happens sometimes when a rival fanboy group is happy about the outcome of a fight. They pretend to be fans of the guy who knocked him out. In this case Leon Edwards.
This. GSP fans are the biggest haters in the sport. Their guy has very few memorable performances so they gotta do their most to make sure he’s not forgotten.

I know y’all weren’t here Saturday morning. Now this place seems infested with them.

There is even a white belt named @Leon Edwards that somehow can make threads. It’s madness

This your opportunity to prove you aren’t a bandwagoner. Tell me when you became a fan. What won you over? Where have you been hiding? Why wait so long to show your face?

LoL thanks for remembering. And yeah fuck Léon haters. Guy is the fucking champ. What can they say now?
That's just it though, the folks who liked Leon(like yourself) were rememberable(to me) because he was so majoritively disliked, you've made some great posts in the past on Leon.

Well, he finally did something amazing. It’s not at all surprising his performance in knocking out usman to win a championship got him a lot of new attention. I don’t know of anyone who really disliked Edwards. People have more so been simply lukewarm about his lukewarm character.

It’s all fair and reasonable. Ya really gotta check Edwards for a heart beat sometimes cause he’s so stoic. His whole narrative about not being able to pull the trigger or sync his timing in moments to be more fluid and present in the hindsight of this fight is the story of his life. He’s a big welterweight, who is gifted strong and durable. The guy shows no significant damage ever in all his fights. He’s highly skilled and tirelessly trained both offensively and defensively. If Edwards could get empowered with the right sports psychologist, he could very well come to be a sustainable champion figure. His problem is in leading the dance. Down the stretch he loses his momentum. He thrives on being an underdog right now and being able to endure hanging in the pocket while still staying fresh and dangerous.

this fight was the fan-maker for him. A talented fighter who never quite gets off, but gets by. He finally got to show what he’s been hanging around for, and waiting on. Good show.

Thanks and yeah. Thing is I saw the potential in him. I didn't expect him to beat Usman like that. I always knew he could pull something off. Just didn't think this was it. Super happy for him. Couldn't have chosen a better guy to do it.

I like Usman and I still do after him losing this one, I wouldn't declare myself as a major fan tho.
For Leon, his comeback finish was truly incredible along with his journey there. However I've been very critical of him in the past(before this bout) and I still stand by some of the things I said about him.

Before this I thought he was a very good fighter, but didn't really show it until now once he got matched up against someone who's a proper top 5 like Usman.
I saw him giving a guy like Colby a lot of trouble and could've seen him winning that bout so I guess that's where I ranked him skill wise beforehand.
My prediction was I had Usman winning this fight, I thought it would go to decision and Leon would've given him a very competitive first couple of rounds.

So in conclusion, I wouldn't say I'm a major fan of Leon or Usman.
I just give Leon massive props for that and I would say he beats Usman if they run it back.
Overall, I enjoy watching both men and hope Leon is able to be active now that he's champ.

I was rooting for Leon because he was getting absolutely no respect going into this fight and honestly, long before it. It isn't as if I dislike Usman. He was one of the most dominant fighters in all of MMA. I was just happy to see Leon win.

I would say he's finally got everyone's respect after what he did last night but you've got incredibly stupid threads on the front page talking about his finishing ability after that head kick last night and his long win streak while people are stating he's 'mid'. Suredawg gonna Suredawg.

Absolutely, I thought Usman would beat him myself, but the crack over the years has mostly been about him deserving the opportunity(regardless of chance of winning), and just look what he fucking did with it!

It is without a doubt one of my favourite moments in UFC history

Agree 100 percent with your first paragraph and Dana made a high IQ move by making this fight. Thing is, all these pussies at welterweight were making excuses and refusing to fight him. You've got Colby, the ultimate Chad claiming he doesn't know Leon any time he's brought up and flat out refusing to fight him. So when everyone ducks a contender, you give them the title shot. Fuck the other guys imo. How can anyone blame him if everyone ducks him. Same thing with Islam and all those weirdos who keep insisting on Islam Vs beneil instead of the title fight in October.

And yeah it was a glorious moment. Usman is still one my favourites. I like him a lot. Probably even more than I like Leon. But that was one of the best MMA moments ever. Rent was due

People are excited that he overthrew the current p4p king for the UFC. Some folks are just GSP lovers. They are happy that Usman lost.

Leon was the polar opposite of Luke last night. Both were shedding tears but for completely opposite reasons and those moments were genuine, both resonating with me equally despite being on the opposite ends of the spectrum. I felt the desperation, fatigue and pain, as well as the release from being done from Luke as much as I felt the sheer joy, sense of validation and accomplishment from Leon's end. The fight card was horrible until those two fights and now it's memorable for many reasons.

i'm not a leon fan. i was happy for him that he got the win. i'm happy he took out usman who was getting annoying again.

With that said. if usman doesn't fake a nut shot and lets the fight finish the threads after the ppv are about usman being the WW GOAT, p4p king, and that leon is a can/trash and should be cut.
