It's gonna be insanely unprofessional and horrible optics if the UFC create an interim welterweight title less than 6 months after the champ just fought. And I doubt Alex Pereira and Ankalaev are both willing to fight short notice, although it's not impossible.

Well, it's not about when the champ fought last, it's more about when the champ can fight next. If this were going to sideline Belal for 9 months, I'd say book the interim title fight. Imagine this particular injury will only set belal back between 3-6 weeks, So it's probably not needed here.
