Was there ever a true two division champion?

It seems like all the double champs got their chance by luck and their prestige status is crippled. DC never won against Jones so he was never the true LHW champion. His HW win was legitimate, but his defence was against someone who told he isn't ready for a title fight and got a short notice. Conor never defended his FW or LW belt, and at LW never won against competition except against Alvarez, who was a champion for a whopping one fight. Nunes and Cyborg fought in a division that has no fighters. GSP made Bisping duck every legitimate contender so he could himself fight him and then vacate despite contract demanding a defense.

When are we going to see a true two division champion?
Penn, Nunes, Henderson. Stop being such a hater man and watch more of the sport

First ever...

Those belts then came to the UFC...

In the UFC it is obviously Connor. It is not debatable. In anyway, shape, or form.

Conor beat Jose Aldo, who had been the FW Champ, since the UFC started that division(and also 1 of the Greatest Fighters in the history of MMA).

And then Conor beat Eddie Alvarez(criminally underrated MMA legend), who was the lineal UFC LW Champion.

McGregor is the only true simultaneous one. Doesn't matter if Alvarez was a so-called "one fight champ", you could move the goalposts on that all day. He was the lineal champ.

Cormier on the other hand lost convincingly to Jones and then only won the championship by default. So he was never a true LHW champ and thus never a two division champ.

Well the only reason Eddie got the title shot was the UFC was desperately keeping the title away from Tony, and Khabib. This was all done to give Conor the most advantageous match up for the belt. So if we want to play this game of opinions it can be played against your argument as well. DC is as rightful double champion as Conor ever was.

That's a revisionist history. RDA beat Pettis to get the belt...

Eddie beat Pettis, who was the former Champion and # 1 ranked contender.

After he beat Pettis, Alvarez got a Title shot.

At that time, Tony Ferguson's best win's were Edson Barboza and Josh Thompson.

At that time Khabib didn't fight much at all, only fighting 3 times in the previous 3 years(2014-2016). His only real claim to fame was being undefeated, and because he had beaten RDA.

Nice conspiracy theory but at that time Khabib had been Injured for years and Ferguson wasn't anywhere near the title discussion. I'd be surprised if Ferguson was even ranked in the top 10 in 2016.

And the consensus around here leading up to McGregor/Alvarez was that Alvarez is too big and will take McGregor down and win easily.

LOL bud give it a rest. DC was a true LHW champion.

It's not his fault that Jon Jones can't fight without using steroids. Jon is a disgrace. Colby said it -- he's been using steroids since college.

I'll go ahead and say the guy that never failed a PED test in his life (DC) was the greatest LHW champion of all time. Jon is off the list because he's a cheater.

Jones never avenged his loss to Matt Hamil, so that means Jones isn’t a true champ either ?

Hard to argue against Penn and Couture, the originals.

I think DC as well, he didn't just beat the most accomplished UFC HW he defended his title and he probably will again.

Conor was a double champ too, not as strong a claim as the others but i'll give that to him.

Disagree. You aren't a double champion if you didn't adequately earn it. A new champion getting a shot at another belt is beyond stupid.
huge disrespect to other top belt contenders too.
