Tech VR Megathread

Man I'm really close to pulling the trigger on PSVR2. Wanted to wait for the first price drop but that might be a while. If they announce AstroBot 2 or some other big game I think I'll just go for it.

@Valhoven can we maybe rename this thread? Lot's of great VR news and suggestions in here, doesn't deserve a negative title like that.

With you. We can rebrand this a VR megathread with TS’ greenlight – or thread rather a PSVR2 discussion (you’re welcome to host) as anything in the vein will be specific to Sony.

Apple coming out with 2 different headsets one could be exclusively VR the other going to be XR or Augmented Reality as it is commonly called the specs of the later one is insane. LG is working with Apple and potentially Valve on 4K panels for each eye and a new type of camera technology. It looks like it will have insane specs like custom silicon for processing tracking and passthrough visuals as well as M2 or M3 mobile specific processor for doing the OS processing. Two hour battery life and 120 degree field of view. This is going to be one expensive AR headset as the displays are rumored to cost 300 per eye just for the displays.

I thought we could just hijack it since TS doesn't seem interested in the topic.

I'm honestly too lazy to do a thread, don't know that much about the topic and mostly like reading about it. Maybe @PEB wants to do one since he is already contributing the most?

If not fine too.

With its 150+ posts and platform-agnostic spirit, I'm dubbing this a de facto megathread at emp's advice. Thread rebranded (in both celebration and critique of the emerging tech) and prefixed accordingly. Heads-up to OP @Nameless King.

Scope remains anything and everything VR. Specific VR titles should maybe be posted or threaded elsewhere, depending on how deep players want to dive on each re: derail.

Easily one of the most visual games on any platform it seems. The sensations through the headset raising the bar on headset technology.

I was thinking of trying to get myself a useed HTV Vive Pro 2 from ebay since I already had the base stations from 2 years ago and I recently ordered the Valve nuckles. But if what you said is true that there isn't much of a difference between the HP Reverb(which I have) and the HTC Vive Pro 2, I might hold off on it. My main wishlist was the Pimax 12k but they still haven't really given it an official release date. The last I heard was supposedly in the 4th quarter oif this year but it has almost ended. The Pico 4 looks quite enticing while waiting for the Pimax release

Pimax, the China-based creator known for its wide field of view (FOV) VR headsets, announced it’s secured a $30 million series C1 financing round, something the company says will aid in the rollout of its new portfolio of VR devices.

The series C1 was led by Beijing-based investment firm Tuanmu Capital. This follows the company’s $20 million series B in 2020, bringing the company’s lifetime outside investment to over $69 million.

In a press statement, the company says the funds will be used to accelerate growth of its coming line of VR headsets, Pimax Crystal and Pimax Portal, enhance its position as both a consumer and enterprise-focused company, and increase investment in R&D.

Founded in 2015, Pimax is best known for its first Pimax “8K” headset Kickstarted in 2017, a consumer PC VR headset that included dual 4K panels providing an estimated 200-degree FOV, by far one of the largest in the industry at the time. Even today, many consumer headsets, such as Meta Quest 2 and HTC Vive XR Elite, feature FOVs around 110 degrees"

I've been playing horizon and resident evil/star wars demos. The controls take some time to get used to and can feel awkward at first. I recalibrate the headset at the start of each session to make sure my eyes are centered because the sweet spot is small. The system seller for me is GT7 and my copy is scheduled to arrive next week.

I loved this game and really looking forward to playing it again when I get a PSVR2.

I'll have to make sure my wife isn't watching though.
This guy f*cks.

Through the lens viewing of the PSVR headset.

Pretty much sums it up.
